Robert Downey Jr. has officially departed Alfonso Cuarón’s long-gestating sci-fi Gravity.

The ambitious but troubled movie, which has bagged Sandra Bullock for its female lead after Angelina Jolie dropped out, will be moving ahead without Downey Jr.

The actor's busy schedule is being blamed, with both Sherlock Holmes 2 and The Avengers on the horizon - but that’s not stopping other studios from attempting to lure the actor in to other roles.

20th Century Fox are currently prepping How To Talk To Girls, which is being described as a Big-style comedy about a nine-year-old boy who attempts to unravel the mysteries of the opposite sex.

Given that a script hasn’t been written yet (nay, a writer hasn’t even been hired), this could be a possible for Downey Jr if the shoot comes after his other commitments.

Meanwhile, the search for a Downey replacement on Gravity begins. Poor Alfonso Cuarón...

Dorothy, Toto and friends could all be getting a 21st century make-over, if Warner Bros gets its way.

The studio have set up shop on a remake of the 1939 classic Wizard Of Oz, and have approached Back To The Future director Robert Zemeckis to direct the live-action update.

Bafflingly, though, the WB are so dead set on sticking true to the ’39 Oz that they’re planning on dusting off Noel Langley and co’s original script and shooting with that.

Which sounds like a disaster of Psycho ’98 proportions. And it’s all because the WB want to compete with Disney’s upcoming Sam Raimi directed The Great And Powerful Oz, if Deadline’s spies are to be believed.

They won’t be the only ones, with Drew Barrymore also in line to helm Surrender Dorothy, which follows Dorothy’s great, great granddaughter and her visit to Oz.

Will Zemeckis and the WB push on with this nutso plan? Zemeckis is certainly busy, with his 3D Yellow Submarine movie due in 2012, and further commitments to direct live-action time-jumping film Timeless.

Let’s hope this all just turns out to be a really bad dream.

James Cameron has lashed out once again against post-production 3D conversions whilst speaking at the Blu-Con event in Beverly Hills.

This time, he had a fresh example of the folly of trying to add another dimension to a flick after the cameras have finished rolling: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

"I maintain you can't do a good conversion of a two-hour movie with high quality in a few weeks like they tried to do with Clash Of The Titans," Cameron said.

"I don't mean to throw that movie under the bus because my buddy Sam is in it, but I think everybody realised that this was a point at which people had gone too far."

"You see another stumble with the most recent Harry Potter movie from the same studio making the same mistake - except really getting spanked for it now because they didn't get the film done.

"They announced it in 3D - threw a bunch of money trying to convert it to 3D in post-production and it simply didn't work. They just didn't get it done."

Now, we absolutely agree with the sentiment, but shouldn't Jim be congratulating Warner Brothers for pulling 3D Harry Potter rather than putting out an inferior product?

Still, he's a genius, he can pretty much say what he wants.

And it wasn't all negative - Cameron is all for post-production 3D, as long as it's used on classic movies like Jaws or ET. Which is nice.

God complex anyone?  Clash of the Titans looks like it will be one of the movies to watch in 2010 and the latest trailer is here! I've always been a fan of greek mythology so am looking forward to this one.
