The first image of Karl Urban in his full Judge Dredd outfit has hit the web.

We weren't expecting to get a glimpse this early (the shot actually comes from a rehearsal session), but the producers are no doubt keen to eradicate memories of the naff Sylvester Stallone vehicle.

The image was posted on Twitter by comic artist Jock, and picked up by Collider.

It has to be said that Urban certainly looks the part. He's got the jawline for the iconic helmet, and he knows how to point a gun menacingly. We also like the 'armoured leather jacket' look he's sporting.

The script has been written by 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland, and the movie's being directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point). Juno's Olivia Thirlby will be appearing alongside Urban in the gritty comic adaptation.

Selling itself as a much more faithful version of the source material, Judge Dredd is currently shooting in Johannesburg, in 3D.

Martyrs

The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm has signed on to remake 2008 French horror Martyrs.

The film - which has many fans here in the TF office - made waves thanks to its graphic, uncompromising style and full-blooded shocks.

Martyrs is very nihilistic,” says Stamm. “The American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don’t have to shoot yourself when it’s over.”

While Stamm did solid work with Last Exorcism, fans of the savage original Martyrs may feel slightly wary after the director made a bizarre comparison between the film and, uh, a certain Gump.

“It plays on things that are familiar - like two friends who can’t be separated, kind of a Forrest Gump and Jenny situation,” says the director.

Odd comparison aside, going on Stamm’s previous film work and ignoring his comments, Martyrs could still come out smelling of roses. Though we’d have preferred it if the original had just been left alone, really.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis

Sylvester Stallone has let the cat out of the bag on what that soon-to-be cult status scene from The Expendables featuring Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will entail. They'll be smack talking each other.

If you didn't already know, The Expendables is about a squad of mercenaries hired to overthrow a South American dictator, but after setting out on their mission they realize they've been left by themselves and must fight not only the dictator, but his army and also the government that set them up.

The scene in question, which takes place in a church with all three actors together for the first time on-screen, was shot last week over a period of 6 hours which, in the end, will translate to around 5 minutes of screen time.

Bruce Willis plays a character that brings in Stallone to size him up for the mission. But as a smack-talk conversation gets going, in walks Schwarzenegger - the second killer-for-hire Willis invited to the meeting.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Commando', Bruce Willis in 'Die Hard', Sylvester Stallone in 'Rambo'

Three of histories greatest action heroes: Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Commando', Bruce Willis in 'Die Hard', Sylvester Stallone in 'Rambo: First Blood Pt II''

I can't wait for The Expendables, and today's news only serves to add fuel to that fire.

For the first time ever, and in what is arguably one of the most monumental moments in action movie history, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone shared screen time together in a scene for The Expendables.

The scene in question took about six hours to film, and whilst no images have been released as yet, there's a fairly detailed write up courtesy of Maria Lascala on her Ethelmae Blog. She announced the moment via her twitter account: @marialascala.

Unfortunately no details are to hand about what the scene entailed, but even if these guys are just sitting around drinking coffee, that'll do.

All I can think about now is what a douche Jean Claude Van Damme is for turning down a role in the movie that will forever act as THE record of who were the top action stars of our time.  He must feel like a right twat now, although, perhaps he realized he just wasn't up to to the cut.  That's probably it.

Sylvester Stallone to make 'Rocky 7'

Sylvester Stallone to make 'Rocky 7'

After The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone will be hard at work on Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, a film that sees Rambo go up against a genetically created "feral beast" after an elite team fails to stop its rampage towards civilization.  And after that, it seems he's going to make Rocky 7.

Before you start throwing criticism, be aware that Stallone's already well aware of it.

"I know I'll probably make a fool of myself if I make another Rocky film after turning 60," he said. "I also know there's gonna be a lot of criticism. Even my wife says, 'Don't do it. You're embarrassing the kids'. But I told her, 'If I don't try I'll be a really unhappy man.' You have to do it. Artists like me have to go through the dark over and over again."
