With a premise that reminds me somewhat of Minority Report and, more recently, ABC's new hit series Flash Forward, the BBC One in the UK have a new series on the way that asks the question: If you could see the future, would you change it?
Paradox is described as a "bold, fast-paced, character-driven action thriller" that unfolds over five 60 minute episodes - seemingly following the format that Torchwood: Children of Earth proved can be highly successful - although it appears each episode will be aired weekly rather than back to back.
The story follows Tamzin Outhwaite (The Fixer, Hotel Babylon) as Detective Inspector Rebecca Flint, who is thrown together with Space Scientist Dr Christian King (Emun Elliott) when a series of rogue images are transmitted from space into his laboratory. The fragmented images appear to be of a major incident, but one that is set to happen in the future. Together with their team they have 18 hours to put the clues together and prevent a tragedy.
The underlying theme of Paradox is that the detectives have knowledge of a future crime and the story gets told as they unravel it in reverse. The paradoxical aspect of the series relates to not only the possibility of knowing and changing the future, but also the moral and emotional implications of having the ability to do so.
