Marvel has thrown a bone to all those Avengers obsessives counting down the days until the film's April release by unveiling a handful of new images.

The new shots include a closer look at Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury than we've previously been privy to, and what looks like a fairly intimate encounter between Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

The Avengers aren't showing any signs of going away soon, as this week Captain America actor Neal McDonough stated that Thor 2 will be immediately followed by Captain America 2 and a Nick Fury movie.

The Avengers opens on 27 April 2012.

Marvel Films co-chief Kevin Fiege has hinted at a few things that may be announced later in the summer, including standalone features for Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Both characters feature in the wider Marvel universe with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow appearing in Iron Man 2 and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye appearing in the upcoming The Avengers.

In a conversation with The Playlist Fiege said:

“There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett about what a Widow movie could be.”

“Internally we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the organization [which Samuel Jackson‘s Nick Fury leads] S.H.I.E.L.D, which has a pretty big part in ‘Thor,’ smaller parts in the two ‘Iron Man’ films and has a giant part in ‘The Avengers.’”

He went on to add: “[So it’s like], what would a stand-alone “S.H.I.E.L.D.” be like? It all goes back to the comics.

“Sometimes the answer is—when looking at a certain run of issues— ‘no way’ and sometimes the answer is ‘maybe, let’s continue to explore it’ and certainly with Hawkeye and Black Widow those are two that we’re exploring.”

Between Thor, and Captain America this summer is already Marvel heavy... with The Avengers set for 2012, will this be the decade of Marvel?

Marvel has released the polybag designs for the anticipated Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160. The Death of Spider-Man event by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley comes to a close with a cover so shocking that it must be concealed. The black bag will be the standard edition, and the red is tagged as the Bagley Variant for you hardcore collectors out there.

OK, so my Christmas is officially complete! Here is the first trailer for the eagerly anticipated Iron Man II. Mickey Rourke's re-invention continues which goes to show that bad plastic surgery doesn't have to stand in the way of a movie career.  Truth be told, he does bring something special to most roles he plays so, go Mickey!

"Iron Man 2" hits theaters May 7. 2010. Robert Downey Jr. is back as billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, aka the super hero Iron Man in this sequel to the 2008 blockbuster. RDJ, Paltrow, Cheadle and Rockwell are joined by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Mickey Rourke as Whiplash. Jon Favreau once again takes up the directorial reins for Marvel's armored avenger.

"Iron Man 2" is one of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, including "Thor" on May 20, 2011, "The First Avenger: Captain America" on July 22, 2011 and "The Avengers" on May 4, 2012.

All my faves are here - Jackson, Cheadle, Paltrow, Downey and of course, The Suit(s)! Forget Christmas, I can't wait for May 2010!

All I can say is, I wish WE"D thought of it first!! Nice suit and even nicer guns cousin!  Marvel.com and artist Frank Cho have hinted that their newest character - called Hitman Monkey - will be revealed on Monday.  We can't wait!
