The eagerly anticipated trailer for Marvel's Thor has finally landed on the net.

Kenneth Branagh's take on Marvel's Norse god is due to hit cinemas in April 2011, and this is the first proper footage (bar some set visit snippets) that has been released outside the walls of Comic-Con.

So, how does it measure up? Considering the growing concern relating to the delay of the trailer, we were getting a little antsy, but this is an impressive promo.

Chris Hemsworth looks and sounds the part as Thor, wielding the lofty dialogue as powerfully as the enchanted hammer, Mjolnir. A shirtless shot will probably help draw in the lady demographics too.

Elsewhere Anthony Hopkins gives Thor a damn good talking to, setting the plot in motion, and giving a pretty concise summary of what we can expect plotwise.

Tom Hiddleston's Loki skulks moodily in the background, but the trailer has little space for him or Natalie Portman's Jane Foster.

Branagh looks to have a decent grip on the action too, with impressive set-pieces glimpsed on Earth and Asgard.

There have been some whispers that the 3D conversion isn't up to much, but we'll have to wait until this debuts in front of TRON: Legacy to be able to judge that.

Incredibly promising movement in Marvel Television and ABC’s team up for a new live-action Incredible Hulk series is news that Oscar-nominated director Guillermo del Toro (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) and BSG executive producer David Eick (BSG: Blood and Chrome, Bionic Woman) are on board to develop the series.

Early word is that the series will be an origin story of physicist Bruce Banner and his mean, green alter ego. Breaking from what viewers have come to expect with the Hulk on the big screen, this television series will employ Del Toro’s preferred method of special effects with the use of prosthetics and puppetry, as well as some CGI instead of leaning heavily on CGI effects. Del Toro will also be very hands-on in the creature design of The Hulk that will be influenced by the character’s traditional comic book look and the original 1978-82 Incredible Hulk series with Lou Ferrigno.

This isn’t the first time that Del Toro has thought about The Hulk. He initially had pursued a film adaptation in the early nineties. Del Toro talked about his affinity for heroes and monsters and his partnership with Eick on this project:

“I have always been attracted at the combination of comic book heroics and monsters, Jack Kirby’s Demon or Kamandi or DC’s Deadman or Marvel’s Dr. Strange, Morbius, Metamorpho, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, etc… [David and I] coalesced a respectful but powerful way of retelling the Banner/Hulk story in a fresh way.”

Eick added that working on The Hulk is like working on “one of the crown jewels of the Marvel world for generations”:

“I’ve enjoyed the challenging, rewarding process of revisiting beloved characters. [This presented a] dream opportunity to join one of my all-time filmmaking heroes, Guillermo del Toro, in a faithful but unique retelling of the primal, emotionally-rich tale of one of my all-time comic book.”

This is a priority project for newly minted Marvel Television. Marvel is looking to launch The Hulk series after the July 2012 premiere of The Avengers.

Marvel Studios are gearing up for a massive couple of years, with Thor and Captain America scheduled for 2011, and The Avengers arriving in 2012.

The studio has already announced plans for Iron Man 3 for 2013, and if reports circling Hollywood are to be believed, they are also planning a spin-off for Iron Man sidekick War Machine.

Pajiba are reporting that a pitch has gone out to writers today, and to expect the official announcement to follow shortly.

In the comics, the War Machine is the nickname of a heavily weaponised suit of armour created by Tony Stark, but used by his colleague, Air Force Colonel James 'Rhodey' Rhodes.

Don Cheadle wore the War Machine suit in Iron Man 2 and is expected to reprise his role in The Avengers, so with news of a spin-off it would seem Marvel have the star locked in to a multi-picture deal.

Expect more single character spin-off news as Marvel look to fill their post-Avengers schedule.

December 2009 brings us the latest hero from Marvel.com! Hitman Monkey will debut in a special two-part Marvel Digital Comics Exclusive beginning this December. Writer Daniel Way and artist Dalibor Talijic, together with a stunning Frank Cho cover will be part of history as this is the first time a character has debuted through Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.

"Hitman Monkey is a soulful, tortured, jazz-loving 30-pound engine of destruction," explains Executive Editor Axel Alonso. "Think Chow Yun Fat from 'The Killer' as a monkey. To be specific, [a Japanese Macaque] monkey."
