Liam Neeson

We've already been given a promising action-packed trailer for Liam Neeson's thriller Unknown which aims to repeat the success of Taken with an early 2011 release. Now it looks like Warner Bros. is trying even harder to reel in the surprisingly large box office turnout from Neeson's ass-kicking venture with the first official poster for Unknown. Though Neeson does look fairly bad-ass, the inclusion of January Jones and Diane Kruger feels like a last minute addition to make the poster slightly different from either of these two posters for Taken. But the trailer looks good, and having read the script I can tell you there's plenty of action on the way.

Here's the first official poster for Unknown courtesy of ComingSoon:

Unknown Poster

Unknown, originally called Unknown White Male, is directed by up-and-coming Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, who got his start making music videos and TV commercials first and then went on to direct the House of Wax remake in '05 and Orphan. The screenplay was co-written by Oliver Butcher (Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde) and Stephen Cornwell (Killing Streets, Marshal Law). This was based Didier Van Cauwelaert's book of the same name, first published in France. This was filmed mostly in and around Berlin, Germany last winter. Warner Bros is bringing Unknown to theaters starting on February 18th, 2011 early next year.

In a surprise (but not unwelcome) piece of casting news, Dreamworks have announced that Daniel Day-Lewis will play Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's long-in-development biopic.

Liam Neeson had long been attached to the role of the 16th President of the USA, but a Dreamworks press release, as reported by Collider, has announced that Day-Lewis has nabbed the part.

Spielberg gushed that "Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest actors, were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema's distant future. I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with Lincoln."

It's hard to disagree with the 'Berg. Rarely has an actor been as consistently excellent as Day-Lewis, and he'll no doubt be a fine choice for the role.

There's no official word on why Neeson left the project, which is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's book Team of Rivals. He had recently suggested that he might not be able to commit after the continual delays.

Another surprise is that Lincoln looks likely to be Spielberg's next movie, ahead of Robopocalypse, as it is due to start shooting in Autumn 2011. We bet Day-Lewis has already started getting into character.

He should probably start clearing some shelf space ahead of the inevitable deluge of awards though...

God complex anyone?  Clash of the Titans looks like it will be one of the movies to watch in 2010 and the latest trailer is here! I've always been a fan of greek mythology so am looking forward to this one.

Opening March 26, 2010, this remake of the Laurence Olivier / Harry Hamlin film from 1981, the new cast includes Sam Worthington as Perseus, Gemma Arterton as Io, Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades and it looks like among other tings, costumes will be the big spectacle here

According to the details,  this is the ultimate struggle for power that pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on Earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.
