new trailer for real time horror silent house 76714 470 75 New trailer for real time horror Silent House

A new trailer has arrived for Silent House, a new horror remake boasting the USP of presenting its scares in real time. 88 minutes of real time, to be precise.

The film stars Elizabeth Olsen as a young woman returning to her family’s crumbling old lake house to spend some quality time with her dad. However, as is often the way with secluded old mansions, all is not well within these four walls…

Take a look at the eerie new trailer below…

The trailer makes much of the real-time element, with the film designed to appear as if it were filmed in a single take. It’s an intriguing device, and one that makes a change from the increasingly tired found-footage format.

Olsen herself is hot property at the moment, having made waves at the 2011 Sundance festival for her turn in Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene. And speaking of waves, you might remember co-directors Chris Kentis and Laura Lau from another real-time chiller in the form of shark-infested nightmare, Open Water.

Silent House will open in the US on 9 March 2012, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, check out 2010's The Silent House if you want to see the original before the remake.

American Horror Story logo white WIDE 560x282 What’s Next for AMERICAN HORROR STORY?

If you haven’t seen the season one finale of American Horror Story, go watch it now. If you haven’t seen all of season one of American Horror Story, go watch it now. Don’t come back here until you do. Okay, welcome back! Wasn’t that finale EXCELLENT? Wow, what a conclusion! And I think you’ll agree that it left the possibilities for season 2 wide open.

According to showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy, that was exactly the intent. In fact, one of the biggest shockers of the entire season is what he had to say about it after it was over, during a question and answer session with reporters yesterday: American Horror Story was packaged from the start to be an anthology series. Season 2 will feature a mostly-new if not entirely new cast, setting, storyline, and horror. It won’t even be a house.

“Every season of the show will be a different haunting. That’s always been the plan. Every season of the show will have a beginning, middle and end, and all new characters and setting.

“There are all kinds of different American horror stories to tell. There are serial killing stories, prison stories, true crime stories…Each year of the show is designed to be a little miniseries unto itself. The only thing we’re not open to doing is a season on vampires.”

It is still possible that we’ll see Dylan McDermott or Connie Britton again, but they would have different roles. Nothing is set yet, however. As reported by Deadline, “We’re still negotiating with a handful (of the cast members) about returning,” Murphy said. “We’re also meeting with new actors whom we’ve targeted roles for. I will say that Connie and Dylan will not be playing the leads of the show in the second season. We’d love for them to come back and do something, maybe a smaller role or a cameo.” According to FX president and GM John Landgraf, however, “we haven’t yet picked up the option on anyone.”

Murphy has always been a big fan of Halloween (like Chad!) and loves the idea of this series airing in the fall and during Halloween, so it looks like we won’t be seeing this new and different season 2 for several months.

American Horror Story 112 Afterbirth Vivien Moira 560x373 What’s Next for AMERICAN HORROR STORY?

So, the story of the Harmons, Constance, and the Murder House is over, as it was always intended to be. Murphy told EW that he is in fact excited to have people go back and watch the entire first season now, having seen the conclusion, so that they can pick up on all the clues that were sprinkled in throughout the season. Constance was always going to be the survivor. Vivien will now be the matriarch of the ghosts. Moira got a happy ending, as a family member and a woman, no longer a servant. Violet will never talk to Tate again, and Tate and Hayden got what they deserved: to  be alone. “That’s what we wanted for them. Alone and tormented.”

[The Shakedown]

Wow. Okay. I still had hope for Tate. And that’s the beauty of ending the presentation of the story at this point; we’re all allowed to make up our own minds about what happens to everyone in their future. In my mind, he gets a happy ending too.

I love the idea of this series as an anthology. Think of each season as a multipart episode of The Twilight Zone. It’s brilliant, and I completely trust this series and its format to co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. American Horror Story was my favorite new show of the season throughout its run, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year.

American Horror Story returns with Season 2 in 2012 on FX.

Nooo! Too soon! It can’t be going away already! And yet, time marches on, and yes it’s true, tonight’s season finale of American Horror Story is the last new episode we’ll see for months and months. You can see my take on it in the review posted earlier today. One more thing you need to know: this video link will only be live through today (12/21/11) per FX. So watch it quick, while you can, and then watch all 90 minutes of tonight’s season finale, entitled “Afterbirth”:

American Horror Story Episode Nine: Apocalyptic Revelations

American Horror Story Episode NineLast week's American Horror Story continued its mission to shock and awe the audience by adding more layers to the overall mystery of the House and its past inhabitants, which now includes notorious L.A. murder victim The Black Dahlia (more on that later). However instead of keeping the twisted and macabre completely close to home (no pun intended), American Horror Story took an unexpected turn with the reveal of Vivian's unborn twins (or the one fathered by Tate) being a vessel for the Anti-Christ to step foot on earth.

While the notion of an American Horror Story version of Damian Thorn (of The Omen film series) running around, the concept brings up two nagging thoughts, or 'worries,' that came to mind. First, bringing in the Apocalypse seems a bit too ambitious for American Horror Story so early in its infancy, at least for now. It sounds as if it would be ideal for a series finale concept rather than an inaugural season ender, because the stakes are so much higher when you dealing with a Big Bad as well-renowned as Satan himself. This leads me to my second thought, which is not really necessarily a 'worry' as much as it is a pseudo-confirmation of where I felt American Horror Story would be taking the Harmons at season's end. In other words, the AHS Apocalypse could mean the death of a Harmon family member or the entire clan as a whole. It would be a bold move for Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk to kill off the entire family after just one season, but at this rate there are two more things to look at when it comes to that possible choice.

First, and most importantly, the House has (IMHO) become the true star of the show with its rich, yet debauched history continuing to thrive to the point where it could (and have, in some respects) transcend the Harmon family's tragic drama. The second aspect to think about is basic common sense when it comes to how the Harmons, namely Ben and Vivian, haven't figured out that they are basically residing with Los Angeles's answer to the High Hopes house from The Amityville Horror. While Violet has been exposed to the House's supernatural component, she still wants to stay firmly put in the middle of all the hauntings, which doesn't necessarily grant her a happy ending of sorts. So, if the Harmons join the fraternity of ghosts in the basements at season's end, I wouldn't be surprised. With that said, I personally hope the Devil and the end of the world will not factor into the Harmons' (possible) demise or into American Horror Story's overall picture. At least for the moment.

While we are on the subject of the possible apocalypse on American Horror Story, who else caught whiplash from the doctor's revelation of Vivian's twins having two different fathers? American Horror Story Episode NineNow we have to wonder if Ben's actual kid will be the savior who is destined to fight his demonic brother and evil itself. Also, I wonder if Tate had any inkling about what he was getting himself into when he agreed to give Nora a baby, or if his actions would have global consequences once performed. The way Constance wailed on him in the basement probably proves otherwise, but again, it wouldn't surprise me if Tate knew what was at stake and went with the plan anyway. He has voiced his opinions on how he views the world multiple times, so could Tate bringing in the apocalypse be his ultimate Westfield High massacre?

Other than the Apocalypse, American Horror Story introduced another ghost to its line-up of victims past, but this new apparition isn't just some average haunted house casuality. She's none other than Elizabeth Short, aka The Black Dahlia, whose murder is arguably the most notorious unresolved case in American crime history. The Black Dahlia's inclusion into American Horror Story's overall tapestry of the House's victims isn't the first time a major historical figure has been included in a TV show's faux timeline for the sake of story. However, while there were several factors which made The Black Dahlia's inclusion into the House's official canon of victims memorable, it was Mena Suvari's portrayal of the character that was the icing on the cake. I pray that Murphy and Falchuk locked her down for more reappearances down the line, because her story is really just beginning.

American Horror Story Episode NineAlso, The Black Dahlia not knowing of her death gave Hayden a good platform to work her wicked 'wisdom' on her fellow ghosts. By guiding The Black Dahlia and Nora into discovering, and accepting, their deaths, one has to wonder just what the hell Hayden is planning. For starters, Hayden's plan has to deal with the demise of Ben and Vivian, but I wonder if said plan will be a shot against the impending apocalypse or if it will be an unpremeditated catalyst to shepherd in the end of the world?

One last thing that should be noted is Ben passing his "test" of not giving in to his desires and finally seeing Moira as the wise old woman she is for the first time. Now seeing Moira in her old state isn't necessarily warranting of a celebration for Ben, but it closes a chapter in his character arc that opens new doors, yet coincides with my theory that Ben might not be long for this world. Let's be honest. One of the intriguing aspects of Ben's character was his interactions with Moira and the unhinged scenario of him only seeing her as the young temptress hellbent on having Vivian catch Ben with his pants down. Now that Ben sees Moira as other women and ghosts do, it doesn't take away the OMG factor of the storyline, but makes you wonder just where else they can take it other than Ben meeting his maker by the finale.

Well folks, American Horror Story has several layers to peel back, but I'm going to return your eyes back to you so you can get on with your day. What are your theories on American Horror Story's final four episodes?

trailer released for maury and bustillos livid 70848 470 75 Trailer for weird French horror Livid online

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo directors of brutal slasher Inside, have revealed a French-Language trailer for their new film, Livid.

As a special Halloween treat we have the trailer here, waiting for you to sink your teeth in to.

Dimension Films are backing the new ‘horror fairytale’, which is set for theatrical release next year.

Livid is set on Halloween night, where three unaware youths break into a desolate house in the search for an old woman’s treasure.

“At night, they get into the house, which reveals itself to be increasingly peculiar. Their hunt for Mrs Jessel’s treasure leads them into a horrifying supernatural series of events that will change Lucy forever..."

The project will also see the return of Inside actress, Beatrice Dalle. Other billed cast include Jeremy Kapone, Catherine Jacob, Felix Moati and Chloe Coulloud.

Livid has been compared to the works of Dario Argento and Guillermo del Toro, which sounds like a pretty perfect combination to us.

Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think!

American Horror Story logo wide 560x282 Happy Halloween to Us From FX – American Horror Story Gets Second Season

What an excellent Halloween treat! FX today announced that it has renewed American Horror Story for a second 13-episode season, and we couldn’t be happier. With AHS and The Walking Dead both assured a return, we can stop worrying about the shows’ longevity and go back to worrying about zombies and rubber men.

“It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience—it’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up,” said FX president John Landgraf. “Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX’s viewers to death for many years to come.”

Deadline reports that last week’s “Halloween Part 1″ received the show’s highest-ever ratings in the 18-49 category, and that the series is currently tracking to become the highest-rated first season of any series ever on FX.

Haven’t been watching? Get caught up tonight with FX‘s special Halloween American Horror Story marathon.

American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.

ben stiller to direct horror the mountain 70343 470 75 Ben Stiller to direct horror The Mountain Over at Fangoria, Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman explain how they've “come to realise that horror and comedy are actually very similar, timing-wise. They’re both about building tension and then releasing that tension.”  It seems comedian Ben Stiller has come to the same conclusion.  The Zoolander and Tropic Thunder director's next project sees him dip his toe into horror territory with The Mountain.  Set in the early 1900s, it's based on Edith Wharton's 1917 novel, Summer - about a young woman who stumbles upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past.  The project reunites Reality Bites director Stiller with that film's writer Helen Childress, after 20th Century Fox bought her spec script.  Stiller handling darker subject matter?  bloody disgusting s vhs horror project in progress 69648 470 75 Ti West involved in VHS horror project

VHS, a found footage horror made up of shorts from six different directors has been announced.

Ti West (The House of the Devil) and Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die) are leading the project and are keen to keep details under wraps.

VHS is being described as “The Shining meets Blair Witch Project.” Which sounds pretty damn cool to us.

Brad Miska is keeping his cards close to his chest, but has tweeted that “It’s a new kind of found footage horror film from the perspective of several genre filmmakers we personally know and love.”

As well as Wingard and West being tied to the project, David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead) and Chad Villella have also signed up for it.

VHS is already in production and being financed by Hollywood management company The Collective.

In the answer to the question posed by the title of this article, quite possibly.

american horror story

The new American Horror Story poster not your typical horror-genre fodder. No one's screaming, it's well-lit, there isn't any blood. It's like a fairytale gone wrong with added in sex-appeal; a black leather figure is suspended from the ceiling of a bright red room, reaching out toward a (pregnant?) Connie Britton as she lays on the floor clad in nothing but lingerie. It's racy, but not pornographic. The color scheme (primarily the red walls, the black leather, and the white skin) is immediately striking. The entire image is perfectly foreboding, right down to the fact that the figure on the ceiling has no feet -- he's just hanging from the ceiling like a broken music box dancer (if the music box only played Marilyn Manson). It's like the creepiest image from the mind of Henry Selick, or one of the milder ones from the mind of David Lynch.

I don't know what's going on with this poster, contextually, but I can tell you that I do like what I see. And while I thought the trailer for the series, which premiered earlier today, was pretty awesome, there's nothing like good poster art that gets me excited for a show.

I'll be watching when the series premieres Wednesday, October 5, on FX.

apollo 18 poster unveiled 00 470 75 Found footage horror Apollo 18 gets a trailer

Apollo 18 has had an incredibly fast turnaround time.

The Timur Bekmambetov-produced thriller crept into production last November, and is set to be released this spring.

Pouncing on the current trend that is found-footage horror, Apollo 18 has a neat twist in that it happens in space.

Adding to the purported stylistic realism, the film is based on a cancelled shuttle mission.

While the trailer generates a reasonable amount of tension, several elements do look very familiar, from the insectoid alien parasite, to the infected zombie-like victims.

Hopefully the finished product will have a few tricks up its sleeve...

Check out the trailer for yourself below:

Apollo 18 is set for release on 22 April 2011.
