Tragedy! Just when things were looking rosy on the Hobbit film adaptations, filming is to be delayed once again.

This time, though, nobody’s really to blame – director Peter Jackson fell ill with stomach pains on Wednesday, and underwent surgery last night at the Wellington Hospital for a perforated ulcer.

He’s apparently resting comfortably and is expected to make a full recovery (phew), but the fall-out of his sudden ill health is that filming of The Hobbit will be slightly delayed.

“Sir Peter's surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to The Hobbit beyond a slight delay to the start of filming,” reads the official statement on the matter.

Filming was set to kick off next month, though no new dates have been officially announced. Better late than never, eh? Get well soon, fella.

Dr. Laura (Schlessinger) is the poster child for angry sanctimonious shrews everywhere. We get that. But here's hoping that her racist rant against a caller to her show yesterday heralds the end of this woman's zealous drivel. Seems she took a page from the Michael Richards School of Broadcasting.

After a range of bizarre comments sprinkled with liberal use of the word 'nigger', she went as far as suggesting that if you (gasp) mix races, you're fair game for racists like her - get a sense of humor.

Dr Looney issued an 'apology' today.

"Yesterday, I did the wrong thing," she said. "I didn't intend to hurt people, but I did. And that makes it the wrong thing to have done. I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the "n" word all the way out - more than one time. And that was wrong. I'll say it again - that was wrong."

She said she "was so upset [she] could not finish the show."

"I pulled myself off the air at the end of the hour," she said. "I had to finish the hour, because 20 minutes of dead air doesn't work. I am very sorry. And it just won't happen again."

Here's hoping it because skittish sponsors force her off the air permanently.
