We recently sat down with legendary Anchorman mirth merchant Will Ferrell, to chat about his career so far.

Talk lead to his upcoming political comedy, Southern Rivals, which will see him and Hangover breakout star Zach Galifianakis playing competing presidential candidates.

When we asked Ferrell about the intriguing project, he was more than happy to spill the beans, telling us:

“It’s basically the story of a small time congressional district in North Carolina, in the south, and I’m the incumbent candidate who’s about to run unopposed for my fifth term.

“There’s even mention of me being considered as a candidate for Vice President and that’s as high as my aspirations go. I just want to be Vice President and I have a wife who wants to be the Second Lady.

“We’re politically hungry, and I’m cruising along until I leave what I think is a message on my mistress’ voicemail but it’s really just a random family and it blows up in my face. I’m seen as vulnerable for the first time and the opposition decides to run a candidate against me and that’s Zach’s [Galifianakis] character.

“But you know, the movie is just a platform for us to illustrate how insane our political process has become. The crazy ad campaigns that exist now and the manipulations. We’re going to make it pretty farcical but not really that far from the truth.”

Ferrell is of course renowned for his spot-on take-off of George W Bush; will his Southern Rivals character be based on a real figure? “No, no, just kind of based on all the politicians nowadays and how no one really talks about any issues, just pays lip service to a bunch of things.”

Southern Rivals is expected to open in August 2012.

Having recently announced an intention to turn his back upon family comedies, Eddie Murphy has revealed he’s currently working on writing his next starring vehicle himself. And apparently, it’s a comedy involving aliens.

Yes, Pluto Nash fans, your ship has finally come in, as Murphy seems determined to to take another run at creating an extra-terrestrial gag-fest. Only this time, he’ll be writing it as more of an ensemble piece.

“I still want to do something like that,” Murphy told Rolling Stone. “I have this idea called Jamal and Tyrell and Omar and Brick and Michael’s Wack-Ass Weekend about this group of guys who get abducted by aliens on the way to the fights. I’m writing that now.”

To be honest, the title alone has us quaking in our boots, but it sounds as though Murphy has at least got some A-list names in mind for his cast. His current film Tower Heist was originally planned as a joint venture between Murphy, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracey Morgan. With five names lined up for the aforementioned Wack-Ass Weekend, could these be the five gents we see occupying the starring roles?

Perhaps we’ll learn more during the run-up to the Oscars, which Murphy will of course be hosting. In the meantime, you’ll just have to dust off that Alien Autopsy DVD and hope for the best…

Two more promos for Showtime's House of Lies have been released and if the tone of each is any indication, we're in for a smooth, snarky good time of a show.

The gist of both, aside from not-so-subtle comments about part of the male anatomy, seems to be to introduce the world of management consulting and the role that it plays in our everyday lives. These are the people behind the people in power, the ones who do all the dirty work and who seemingly have the real power.

The show, based on Martin Kihn's House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time, brings Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda) to TV for the first time as Marty Kaan, a charismatic management consultant that will stop at nothing to get to the top. Joining Cheadle is Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), who plays one of Marty's co-workers, Ben Schwartz (Parks & Recreation) as Marty's closest friend, and Dawn Olivieri (Heroes), portraying Marty's drug addicted ex-wife who is also his primary competition.

House of Lies premieres Sunday, January 8th at 10:00 on Showtime, joining Shameless and Californication.

Universal has won a bidding war for an untitled comedy that has Seth Rogen and Zac Efron attached to star.

Rogen will also produce, alongside his longtime pal and collaborator Evan Goldberg, according to a report by Deadline.

The movie will be written by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, who are proteges of Judd Apatow like Rogen and Goldberg.

Universal apparently put up a seven-figure offer for the pitch, buoyed by the slew of R-rated comedy success stories this summer (Bridesmaids and The Hangover Part 2 chief among them).

The plot will see and Efron's fratboy's partying antics disrupting the life of family man Rogen, so unsurprisingly it's expected to have a touch of the Old School about it.

There's currently no news on a release date, but as it's yet to be written, don't expect it for some time yet.

The project should also mark Efron's biggest step away from the High School Musical franchise. He's proven himself a likeable presence in Me And Orson Welles, so perhaps this'll be the movie to open him up to a whole new audience.

Bridesmaids has proven that filthy, funny female movies can have their cake and eat it - it’s just become the highest-grossing R-rated female comedy ever.

The Kristen Wiig hoot-fest has now made $ 152.9m at the US box office, meaning it’s snatched the crown from Sex And The City as queen of the female comedy.

It's a title well-earned, considering Bridesmaids has received almost unanimously positive reviews (we called it "a side-splitting comedy that lifts the veil on every wedding’s unsung heroines").

That surely means that Wiig is now something of a hot property, considering she not only starred in, but also spent years writing the Bridesmaids script.

You can bet that in light of the film’s success (both financially and critically), she’ll be receiving quite a few phone calls about what she’s going to do next.

The same can probably be said of her co-stars, with Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph all providing laughs-a-plenty with their outrageous characters.

There's already been talk of a Bridesmaids 2 - could it be Annie's turn to walk down the aisle?

The first trailer for cancer comedy 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has landed online.

The film is loosely based on the real-life experience of screenwriter Will Reiser, as JGL's happy-go-lucky 27-year-old, Adam, is struck down in his prime by the big C.

It's not as grim as all that sounds though, with the comedic snarkiness bringing a refreshing edge to what could have been 'TV movie of the week' material.

While it may be too risky for awards season, it looks like it'll give Gordon-Levitt another boost on the path to becoming one of the most consistently impressive actors of his generation.

Seth Rogen is on hand to provide lowbrow support, and the impressive cast-list also finds room for Bryce Dallas Howard as Adam's girlfriend, Anna Kendrick as a counsellor and Anjelica Huston as the concerned mother.

50/50 is released in the US on 30 September 2011, so hopefully we'll get confirmation of a UK release soon.

Last year, Dana Delaney played FBI Agent Jordan Shaw on the season 2 combo episode and a couple of weeks later, she had scored a new gig as the lead of ABC's new drama Body of Proof - which premieres next Tuesday (March 29th) at 10pm.

This season, the lucky guy was former Heroes star, Adrian Pasdar. He guest starred as Homeland Security Agent Mark Fallon on Castle's season 3 two-parter "Setup" and "Countdown" and sure enough, just a few weeks later he has been cast as the lead of a new NBC comedy.

Pasdar and Sarah Paulson will play the leads of this workplace comedy and the pilot - still untitled - is penned by The New Adventures of Old Christine's creator, Kari Lizer. The plot tells the story of Mary Leahy (Paulson), a woman who is plagued with relationship problems and helps people go through difficult career changes for a living.

Pasdar plays a confident guy who has drunk sex with Mary in a bar bathroom and ends up joining her firm afterwards.

So what do you think? Will you watch Adrian Pasdar on his new gig?

And what's with this guest starring on a Castle two-parter and getting a job afterwards thing? I'm starting to see a pattern here, don't you? There must be something in the water there.

I wonder who next season's lucky guy/girl will be.

Just a couple of days ago, we brought you an early look at one of the Super Bowl XLV commercials. which was a bit of a cross-over for Chevrolet and Michael Bay‘s upcoming Transformers film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
