Thomas Hardy has been cast as Max Rockatansky in George Miller's new $100M Mad Max film, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Hardy's previous film credits include Black Hawk Down, Star Trek: Nemesis, Layer Cake and more recently Bronson.

He'll be joined by Charlize Theron, although which character Theron will play remains a mystery, as does the entire storyline.

Shooting will commence next year (actual date unknown) and will take six months, apparently due to the enormous volume of stunts the film is going to have.

No release dates have been announced.

On Thursday (Oct 22, 2009) Charlize Theron took part in a fund raising event for OneXOne, an organization dedicated to providing welfare assistance to children in developing countries.

Initially she was selling a trip to South Africa that included World Cup tickets, a safari, and a chance to meet with Nelson Mandela.

When bidding stalled at $37,000, and after Jeremy Piven raised $280,000, she exclaimed: "For f*** sake! You can do better! There is no way I am leaving here with Jeremy Piven getting a higher bid. I've got tits for God's sake."

Theron then raised the stakes by throwing in a seven second kiss for $130,000 to a male bidder.

"Swine flu is going around. This is high risk kissing!" she told the bidder.

But then a female bidder raised the stakes even further, offering up $140,000 for a 20 second kiss.  She won, and now not only does OneXOne score some excellent much needed funds for their charity work, but the rest of us get to watch.

There's an interesting report going around that Charlize Theron may be in the running to take the lead role in George Miller's reboot of Mad Max. It's called Mad Max 4 at the moment, but whether or not it retains the "4" remains to be seen.

The rumor seems to have come via E!Online who are throwing out the buzz that Miller may be interested in casting Max as a woman.  Personally I think that would be awesome.  Firstly, Max will always be Mel Gibson to me, so I'm not that interested in Mad Max 4 without Mel Gibson and, apparently, he's not interested (or rather, Miller thinks he's too old).  But, after the wonder-turd that was Mad Max 3 I think if a new film is to be made it should be a re-imagined version and, to my mind, Charlize Theron would make an awesome ass-kicking Max (or is that Maxine).

Let's hope it turns out to be more than a rumor.
