‘UFC 104′: Judges Award Win to Lyoto Machida, Everyone Else Awards it to Shogun Rua
Posted by Monkey 1 in: All NewsI'm a Machida fan through and through, and was never a Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua fan. Of course, that's now changed.
At UFC 104 Shogun gave MMA fans a clinic. He systematically picked the undefeatable Machida apart and did what no other fighter in history has done before him - implemented a gameplan that exposed Machida's weaknesses.
Shogun was billed as having no chance against Machida. I thought he had less than a punchers chance and the phone in polls had 87% in favor of Machida. It really did seem like a foregone conclusion before the fight, yet every single person that doubted Shogun ended up being proven wrong - and right at the same time. Ah, the irony of poor judges decisions.
Machida took home the belt because of, well, the judges say his strikes were the cleaner and more damaging of the two. They even say Machida controlled the Octagon because he made Shogun go after him. I completely agree with them, but only when I view the fight through my alternative reality goggles that flip the truth upside down and shit in the face of honesty. Truth is, the judges have clearly never felt what it's like to be kicked repeatedly in the legs.
Maybe the judges should watch the following video of just how dangerous even a simple leg kick can be:
I feel sorry for Shogun, but congratulate him on an excellent performance that may not have won him the belt, but it certainly won him some fans.
