Each time I've watched J.J. Abrams' Star Trek I've wondered why the hell it took Nero all that time, from the death of Kirk's dad to Kirk being old enough to become a Starfleet officer, to show himself again. The answer seems to be that Nero was actually captured by the Klingons and imprisoned the whole time.
