Daniel H. Wilson's unpublished Robopocalypse manuscript is being fast tracked as a feature film after DreamWorks Studios and Doubleday acquired the film and publishing rights, reports THR.

Robopocalypse follows the fate of the human race after a robots uprising.

Yes, angry robots have taken to humanity in a number of films, such as Terminator and The Matrix, but Robopocalypse is said to be different (it's certainly harder to spell).

Wilson actually has a Ph.D in robotics and word is his story is fully grounded with realism based on his knowledge of real robot technology.

"Writing this novel is an incredible thrill, after spending years studying and thinking about robotics," Wilson said. "My hope is that the story we tell will make the robots of the future proud of us humans."

If you wonder what the hell he means by wanting robots to be proud of humans, you can get a better idea by noticing the tongue in cheek flavor of his other book titles:

Doubleday intend to publish the book in 2011, and I'm assuming the film will hit in 2011 too.
