Earth and Jupiter as Seen From the Mars Global Surveyor
Posted by Monkey 1 in: All NewsCheck out this image taken from the Mars Global Surveyor Mars Orbiter Camera (yes, that's from the planet Mars) that shows both Earth and Jupiter in the one image.
The shot was taken way back on May 8, 2003 and it's probably been floating around for a while, but this is the first time I've seen it and it's awesome.
In the image I've edited out the vast gap between the two planets, but kept their relative size intact. Bear in mind that Jupiter is apparently 600 million miles away, so that gives you an idea just how large it is compared to Earth!
View the larger, original shot by clicking the above image. When the image pops up in the lightbox, click on the image name at the bottom and that will open the image in its full scale glory. Warning, the original image size is just over 419KB.
