The title sort of gave it away, but now at least it's been confirmed.  The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film will take its story premise from a book written by author Tim Powers titled On Stranger Tides.

Screenwriter Terry Rossio had this to say:

"We wanted to do a story about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth, and Tim Powers wrote a book about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth… it just turns out that to do that story you would need that book. It's brilliant and Tim Powers is an amazing writer - and it's a great title. It allows us to draw material from that universe and his expertise."

Disney have Pirates 4 scheduled for a 2011 release, but whilst we know what the story will be based on, at this stage no-one knows who the cast will be.  Johnny Depp at one point said he was in, and at another shed doubt on his involvement by stating it all depends on the script.  Keira Knightely has apparently declined to return, and I have no idea if Orlando Bloom will or won't bother.

I haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End yet, mainly because the first two movies didn't do it for me.  So I don't know if I'll bother either.
