Back in Stepember it was announced that Hancock director Peter Berg would be helming (as both producer and director) a new feature film based upon Hasbro's naval strategy board game Battleship.

If you've played Battleship, you'd know it's a strategy game based upon naval battles, so when Battleship was announced, few people would have pinned the film as being sci-fi. Yet the latest news confirms it, well, if Latino Review are to be believed.

Apparently an industry insider has confirmed that the enemy selected for the film will be...aliens. If true, the basic story will see five international ships (just like the game) go up against a fleet of alien ships, or something like that.

I'll fully believe it when an official statement is announced, but if true, I'd have to say the film is shaping up to be only very loosely based upon the board game, unless the alien ships look like pegs and are invisible...
