hitmanmonkey2

December 2009 brings us the latest hero from Marvel.com! Hitman Monkey will debut in a special two-part Marvel Digital Comics Exclusive beginning this December. Writer Daniel Way and artist Dalibor Talijic, together with a stunning Frank Cho cover will be part of history as this is the first time a character has debuted through Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.

"Hitman Monkey is a soulful, tortured, jazz-loving 30-pound engine of destruction," explains Executive Editor Axel Alonso. "Think Chow Yun Fat from 'The Killer' as a monkey. To be specific, [a Japanese Macaque] monkey."

The character's origin will incorporate a number of different elements, ranging from the comedic to the dramatic.  Hitman Monkey is a skilled martial artist and crack shot, plus he's got mad hops.

Hitman Monkey will fling his own special kick-ass brand of poo this December only from Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.

Matthew Vaughn's  Kick-Ass has issue a new poster. In this one,  Aaron Johnson feels literally like garbage after having his ass handed to him.

In this superhero movie, the hero is on the bottom rung of the Power ladder and ass kickings are a regular occurrence for our hapless wonder. Aaron really shouldn't leave home without the more effective heroes Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

We're still waiting for a release date and Spring 2010 is still the target.

So you have all the t-shirts, posters, key rings and decorative floor mats from your favorite movie or TV series? Well as impressive as that is, all the really cool kids have been including the Press Kits too! That's right my friend. YOU are in serious need of a memorabilia upgrade! But don't fear because the Monkeys are here to help.

If the concept of Press Kit collectibles is new to you, here is a quick primer (source: popculture.suite101.com)

For decades, motion picture studios sent out colorful printed folders to entertainment journalists. These kits contained various production stills, behind-the-scenes pictures, and headshots, with either black-and-white or color 8” x 10” photographs, and/or color slides. The information contained within these kits included production information, actor/director/producer biographies, story synopsis, complete list of credits, and specialized information when appropriate, such as music, special effects, or location information.

In the late 1990s, many studios switched to cheaper electronic press kits where photographs and information were sent to members of the press on CDs. Although some printed and electronic press kits still get sent out for promotional purposes, currently many studios direct members of the press to their publicity websites, where with a secret password, journalists gain access to online production information and downloadable production stills and promotional photographs.

These kits are a great addition for any casual or serious collectors and are surprisingly affordable.  While most range from $10 - 50, some of the rarer items are just a tad pricier but not too crazy. The most expensive one we've seen on eBay is only around $500. Press kits are available for movies from 1935 to today and just think about what a great gift they'd make!

Check the links below to browse for your favorites. They will open in a new window because honestly, we know you just can't get enough of the Monkeys.

Check out the lastest U.S. poster for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (via Impawards).

Personally I think it's the worst poster released so far for the film - looks kind of slopped up on the run to me and isn't a touch on its predecessor.

Kick Ass movie posters combined

Four character posters have been released for director Matthew Vaughn's Kick Ass via IGN. All four combine to read 'Kick Ass' (above, click to enlarge).

I like that the actors names do not appear on the posters, although I wonder if that will hinder rather than help the film's marketing. Then again, Nicolas Cage is one of the actors, so you know, maybe the marketing guru's know what they're doing (I shouldn't say that, I did enjoy Knowing).

Kick Ass is based on the comic book of the same name that follows Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who lives alone with his father. Dave's life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming, however one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training. Before long he is joined by three more would-be superheroes.

All four individual posters together with character summaries are after the jump.
