Ghost Rider

Screenwriter David Goyer has confirmed that plans are underway to shoot Ghost Rider 2 next year. He also confirmed the sequel is not a reboot, that it will go darker than the first, that you won't need to have seen the first movie to get into the second, and that the story will take place 8 years after the first.

Goyer tells MTV:

"It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider'.

"This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."

Ghost Rider 2 will see Nicolas Cage return to the role of Johnny Blaze (aka Ghost Rider). Unfortunately it's being stripped down from a R rating to PG-13, so I'm not really sure how it will be darker than the first with a lighter rating. Time will tell I suppose.

Expect it in 2011.

Watchmen

Kyle Buchanan from Movieline recently spoke with The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus director Terry Gilliam and asked him about Watchmen, a film that Gilliam failed twice to adapt from Alan Moore's graphic novel .

Here's what Gilliam said:

“I felt a lot of it was so good. It got the look of it brilliantly. But it suffered from some of the things I was having problems with when I was trying to write a script. It’s too short. It’s also too long! It’s a very weird thing and they had to make so many compromises and changes. I was always saying it should be a five-part miniseries. I still believe that. But he got the look right, and the Rorshach stuff is really, really great. I think I felt if there was any fault, it was almost too respectful of the original. It needed a kick in the ass, frankly.”

So let me get this right. Gilliam's problem with Watchmen is that it wasn't exactly the length he would have wanted it to be, and that it was too respectful to Alan Moore's work.

Joss Whedon

Following Joss Whedon's insult to the rights owners of the Terminator franchise, EW took the initiative to pick up the telephone to ask him: What the?

His response was a lot of blah blah about how he wasn't slamming Terminator and, amazingly, that he's serious about the $10,000 offer to buy the rights whilst confirming that he's not serious that such an offer will result in anything (no shit Sherlock).

But I can at least agree with him on what his open letter was mostly about:

“But mostly, it’s just me being a dumb-ass, because that seems to be what I do best — I’m not even very good at that. So, no, I do not think they’re going to call me and say ‘Congratulations! We’ll have that $10,000 now.’"

Yep, that's the long and the short of it.

You can read his full statement at EW.

Laura Vandervoort as Kara in 'Smallville'

Laura Vandervoort as Kara in 'Smallville'

Laura Vandervoort is perhaps most well known to fans of Smallville, although anyone who has searched for 'Supergirl' on Google will probably know who she is too.

Recently there's been a little buzzing around the traps that she'll be reprising her role on Smallville as Clark's cousin Kara, aka Supergirl. Not true, according to Vandervoort:

I've heard rumors, and that's weird because I haven't heard anything from them. I've been getting text messages from my friends whose co-workers heard that I was going to return, and they think that I am because I am in Vancouver working on a Warner Bros.-produced show, but no. They haven't called, and I'm sad to say that. I'd love to return.

The above quote comes from an interview with her by Visitorsite where she also discusses her latest role as the alien recruiter in V, which premieres on ABC tonight at 8pm! Head to Visitorsite for the full interview.

Gerard Butler in 'Law Abiding Citizen'

Gerard Butler in 'Law Abiding Citizen'

Star of 300 and Law Abiding Citizen, Gerard Butler, recently told Britain's Men's Health Mag that he was out of control when he decided to pursue acting. At the time of making his decision he was apparently just weeks away from qualifying as a solicitor.

"You have to understand that I was completely out of control. If I hadn't been so lost and insane, I'd still be a lawyer. I said to myself, I'm aiming for the stars. I'll worry about the details later."

Fortunately for him those details fell into place just nicely, although he admits two things helped him. One is hard work, and in what sounds like a 'Law of Attraction' line straight out of Rhonda Byrne's The Secret, the second thing that helped him was the universe.

"The universe conspires. Once you decide to do something, the universe starts to help you," he said. "There are a lot of people who are really talented, and I can see they're not going to make it because they don't work hard enough."

Fair enough.

Below (after the jump) is a clip with Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen - let's hope the universe knows the difference between fact and fiction.

Bridget Regan, aka Kahlan in Legend of the Seeker, has appeared on Attack of the Show as part of her Legend of the Seeker Season 2 promotional tour.

Watch it below (and for the record, I think she's way sexier than Megan Fox):

Bridget Regan, the gorgeous star of Legend of the Seeker and fan favorite for Wonder Woman, was interviewed on Fox 5 Morning News yesterday.

Despite the interview going for more than 5 minutes, the dumb-ass interviewer barely asked any questions of interest and couldn't even get the series name right, insultingly referring to it as "Legend of the Seekers" until the name of the series popped up on a screen at the end and she was able to read it (which was surprising in itself).

Still, in addition to demonstrating why morning show hosts should never breed, fans can get to feast their eyes upon Bridget Regan for a full five minutes and she does manage to squeeze in a few seconds of commentary regarding the upcoming second season.

Alien

Director Ridley Scott has confirmed that his upcoming prequel to Alien will take place roughly 30 years prior to the original film.

Scott told Empire:

“It’s a brand new box of tricks. We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.”

The prequel marks the first time Ridley Scott has returned to the franchise since he directed the original 1979 Alien, but nothing else is known about the story at this stage.
