‘Ghost Rider 2′ to Shoot Next Year, to be Darker Than the First Movie
Posted by Monkey 1 in: All News, Interviews, MoviesScreenwriter David Goyer has confirmed that plans are underway to shoot Ghost Rider 2 next year. He also confirmed the sequel is not a reboot, that it will go darker than the first, that you won't need to have seen the first movie to get into the second, and that the story will take place 8 years after the first.
Goyer tells MTV:
"It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider'.
"This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."
Ghost Rider 2 will see Nicolas Cage return to the role of Johnny Blaze (aka Ghost Rider). Unfortunately it's being stripped down from a R rating to PG-13, so I'm not really sure how it will be darker than the first with a lighter rating. Time will tell I suppose.
Expect it in 2011.
