Comic book fans the world over will have found their ears pricking at the news that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are planning to include the story Just Another Saturday Night in the long-awaited sequel to Sin City.

Involving three of the key players from the first film in the form of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), Nancy (Jessica Alba) and Marv (Mickey Rourke), it would be a popular choice, provided the original talent could be persuaded to return.

Just Another Saturday Night follows Marv's movements on the same night that Nancy and Hartigan are reunited, providing a storyline that runs in tandem with the events of the first movie's final third. Mickey Rourke is aware of proceedings and recently spoke to Comingsoon.net about the chances of a return for big Marv.

“It depends,” laughed the Wrestler star. “It depends on how bad they want me, you feel me? I did [like the character], but I'm claustrophobic, so the hours of makeup… you have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It's latex and glue and that stuff gets my eyes all red.”

It also got in the way of the star’s social life last time around. “I remember I picked up some chick at a bar in Texas one night and invited her to the set to have lunch at the lunch break," says Rourke. "I couldn't take the shit off. Fuck it, I never saw her again.”

That said, the character is at least one that Rourke would be interested in revisiting, which is more than can be said for Whiplash, the villain he played in Iron Man 2.

“I try to find the moments where [the villain is] not that cliched, evil bad guy," he explains. "I had it on Iron Man and they won. It was going to work for Marvel and them breaking [Jon] Favreau's balls and wanting just a one-dimensional villain. The performance and all the things that I tried to bring to it ended up on the fucking floor."

Word of warning then Mr. Rodriguez. If you do persuade Mickey Rourke to don the latex for a second time, make sure he gets lots of nice, juicy characterisation to play with. And the odd lunch break out of character might help as well…

The Walking Dead season 2 continues with its third episode "Save the Last One," but how does it hold up to the comic book continuity?  The group is still split as Shane and Otis fight off walkers at the high school desperately trying to retrieve medical supplies for Carl, while Rick, Lori, Hershel, Maggie and Glenn hold things down at the farm and the other survivors continue the search for Sophia.  So what's next for The Walking Dead?

As AMC's incarnation weaves in and out of storylines from the books and adds its own original characters and development, we've compiled an in-depth guide for fans of the comic as well as AMC's The Walking Dead to enjoy.  Check it out, and let us know your opinions of The Walking Dead's "Save the Last One" in the comments below!

the walking dead

APOCALYPTIC AMENITIES

AMC:  Oh, sure, it’s a small point to ponder, but it’s of interest to note that Hershel’s farm has a full-access shower, and working electricity to accommodate Shane’s dramatic head-shaving, as well as enough lighting for Carl’s surgery.  Where are they getting that power?

THE COMICS:  Showers weren’t quite as difficult to come by for the Image Comics survivors, as Dale’s camper featured a functional shower, which utilized whatever water was available.  And while it wasn’t explicitly mentioned, we’re pretty sure most electrical grids would have failed, and Hershel’s farm featured far fewer modern conveniences.

the walking dead

CARL’S BEDSIDE

AMC:  Rick and Lori never stray too far from Carl’s bedside (especially with Rick’s blood donation), and actively engage their young son in his brief return to consciousness before a seizure.  He doesn’t make much mention of his own shooting, and later pulls through the operation with flying colors.

THE COMICS:  As we mentioned in our comparison of “Bloodletting,” Carl’s injuries were far less severe in the comics, and it didn’t take long for Hershel to patch him up.  Rick and Lori of course stayed by his bedside, and once awake, Carl asked for his (father’s) hat, not remembering that he’d been shot.  He was even greeted by Sophia, who had taken quite a liking to her friend at that point.

the walking dead

OTIS THE HERO

AMC:  More than simply embarking on a dangerous mission to the school to retrieve the badly-needed medical supplies for Carl, Otis actually proves something of a hero in his own right by courageously leading the walkers away from Shane, and even returning to take out one advancing on his partner!

THE COMICS:  Sure Otis took his accidental shooting of Carl rather harshly, but he didn’t make a habit of much heroic behavior, or even prove that handy.  Most of his time was spent with his girlfriend Patricia, or being vaguely racist.

American Horror Story logo wide 560x282 Happy Halloween to Us From FX – American Horror Story Gets Second Season

What an excellent Halloween treat! FX today announced that it has renewed American Horror Story for a second 13-episode season, and we couldn’t be happier. With AHS and The Walking Dead both assured a return, we can stop worrying about the shows’ longevity and go back to worrying about zombies and rubber men.

“It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience—it’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up,” said FX president John Landgraf. “Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX’s viewers to death for many years to come.”

Deadline reports that last week’s “Halloween Part 1″ received the show’s highest-ever ratings in the 18-49 category, and that the series is currently tracking to become the highest-rated first season of any series ever on FX.

Haven’t been watching? Get caught up tonight with FX‘s special Halloween American Horror Story marathon.

American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.

For the record: I dressed as Dexter Morgan for a Halloween party last night. So let it be known that I have been a loyal, massive fan of this Showtime hit.

But, man these past few episodes have been exceptionally boring and aimless, with "The Angel of Death" the season's lowest point yet. Allow me to pose a few questions that illustrate my frustration:

Surfing the Shady Web

Did we really spend time on a murder/suicide just to lead to Deb getting a deal on a new rental?

Did the show really waste a drawn-out storyline of Quinn hooking up with Gellar's ex just to prove what the viewers and the Miami PD strongly suspected, that the professor is behind the killings?

What newspaper would ever run a front page photo and story, replete with definitive headline that screams THE DOOMSDAY KILLER, when there's absolutely no evidence linking that individual to the crime?

If Gellar had already seen this story, why would he go out in public to begin with, just to then tell Travis it was a bad idea once he also saw the newspaper?

Why is Dexter keeping his work on this case a secret from his co-workers? We've seen Dexter work against the police department before, but only when he had a personal stake in the crimes being committed. In this case, he saw Travis, he has suspicions... and he's just working on his own because he wants to commit the kill? That's not typically how Dexter operates. He finds his own victims. Why not do his actual job here?

Overall, there's just been no sense of urgency this season. Is any viewer on the edge of his/her seat because Brother Sam got shot? He's not connected to the main storyline, he's just been a prop to shove this whole faith issue down our throats. If the lesson Dexter learns from Sam's death is that he's bound to live a life of darkness... isn't that the lesson he's learned every single season?

UFC Halloween Costumes

Posted by Monkey 1 in: All News

UFC middleweight contender Chael SonnenYou love Halloween and the UFC, right? Of course you do! Well, here are some ideas for UFC inspired costumes. You can even go all out and have a UFC-themed Halloween Party!

Georges St-Pierre:  To be the welterweight champ for Halloween, draw a fleur de lis tattoo on your right calf and his Kanji tattoo on your chest. Enter the party with a headband and a gi then remove that and begin performing the essence of the "costume": a French-Canadian accent and GSP's most famous catch phrases. "I'm not impressed with your performance", "'e can't 'andle my riddum" and "I'm the best Georges St-Pierre I've ever been".

Roy Nelson (Old School): All you need is a beard, a mullet and a belly. The belly can be real or prosthetic - depending on your body type.

Roy Nelson (2.0): Same as above but with less belly and a lot more beard. The beard can also be real or prosthetic - depending on your facial hair situation.

Dan Hardy: A bright red Mohawk spiked up high will leave little doubt which UFC fighter you're dressing up as. Don't forget to affect a British accent - unless of course, you already have one. Don’t forget to call everyone "mate"

Chael Sonnen: Love him or hate him, you can't ignore him. You can wear a Chael Tapout shirt or his limited edition "Make the Walk" Team Sonnen shirt.  But the real key to being Chael is memorizing his many hilarious and controversial quotes and saying them at the appropriate time. If there's a guy dressed as Anderson Silva at the party, be sure to put your finger in his chest and call him out, telling him that you are in fact the "true middleweight champion". If there isn't an Anderson Silva at the party be sure to accuse him of ducking you to anyone who will listen. If there are any Brazilians at the party, assure them that it is just a costume to avoid a fight breaking out.

Jon Jones: Just get yourself a UFC Championship replica belt and get some sort of tubing to extend your arm length a good 6 or 7 inches to replicate the longest reach (84.5”) in the UFC. A little pre-party crimefighting doesn’t hurt either.

Dennis Hallman:  This one isn’t for the modest soul. Get the tightest, shortest baby blue speedos you can find, write "training mask" on them and wear confidently. Short blond hair will add to the costume.

Brian Ebersole: This requires some chest hair, enough to shave into the signature up arrow. The "hairrow" if you will. If you don't have your own chest hair, feel free to glue some hair in an arrow shape to a flesh colored shirt. Where you get the hair is up to you, but be sure to follow all local laws and statutes as well as basic sanitary practices.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller: Dye your hair bright yellow, Wear a TUF Team Miller shirt with Miller crossed out and Mayhem written in. Practice your hearty Mayhem laugh. Recruit people to join your Mayhem Monkey Cult. For added realism, if you have access to a Dachshund, bring it to play Mayhem’s dog, Gator.

Nick Diaz: Mean mug everyone at the party, especially the person dressed as Mayhem Miller. Refer to everything as "whatever". Alternately, don't show up to the party but make a youtube video the next day derisively referring to the party as a beauty pageant. Either way, be sure to shout out Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and “the 209” as often as possible.

“Danny Boy” Downes: If you're more the nerdy, intellectual UFC fan, then you're probably already a “Danny Boy” fan. Wear Dan's signature green & white Carling jersey, glasses and carry a book. For added effect carry a huge wallet packet with coffee cards and whip it out when people ask you for your ID. Say something along the lines of "I swear I'm 25, my ID is in here somewhere.... I fight in the UFC you know? Seriously."

Anthony "Showtime" Pettis: Grow a soul patch on your chin, get a flesh colored shirt and draw the Showtime tattoo on the upper back. Run up walls at your own risk.

Josh Koscheck: To pull off the "Kos", you need a curly blond wig and the guts to pull mild pranks on everyone at the party - especially the guy dressed as GSP. Perhaps, hide his gi three or four feet from where he left it. Happy Halloween! You've been Kos'd!

Steven Seagal: While not a UFC fighter, Mr. Seagal has been seen at many UFC events and reportedly helped train a few fighters like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. Seagal's signature look involves a black do rag on his head and yellow shooting glasses. Offer to teach other people at the party your "deadly arts".

Dana White: If you're bald or have access to a bald "wig", you can be the UFC President. Be sure to curse liberally, assuming you're in company that won't be offended by that sort of language. Ask people if they want to be an F-in' fighter. Tweet from your phone frequently. Hand out bonuses for the best costumes. Count the amount of people at the party and announce that number as "the gate".

After two extremely impressive and gripping episodes, Boardwalk Empire slowed things down a bit with this week's "The Age of Reason." While there wasn't a lot of violence or emotional suspense, the episode really helped build the narrative toward the ultimate climax: a real showdown between Nucky and Jimmy. It's what we've all been waiting for, and I think Jimmy is finally becoming a more challenging opponent for Nucky.

The Age of Reason Scene

Despite always seeming like a strong, independent character, Jimmy has usually been dependent on his connections, both familial and business-oriented, to maintain his position and to add a little muscle to his endeavors. However, now he is moving beyond the help of his mother and father, taking real advice on how to be a successful leader.

When Jimmy tells Horvitz, "Not every insult requires a response" (a lesson he learned from his run-in with Parkhurst), I thought he actually understood what it really took to reach Nucky's level. Until now, his actions have always been a result of his own feelings, from challenging Nucky's authority to scalping Mr. Parkhurst. Now he is being more strategic than reactionary.

Clearly, he could have let his displeasure with Luciano and frustration with Nucky spill out into a gunfight, but he made the wiser choice and withheld his aggression so he could build a stronger business with Lansky and Luciano. Nucky has always been the best at cultivating business relationships, but lately he has lost his touch. George and Remus find him a bit too tightfisted, and Senator Edge's displeasure might end up costing Nucky his freedom. Maybe Lansky is right: The time for Nucky and Rothstein has passed, and we'll get to see the rise of the new gangsters.

Other than Jimmy getting a handle on his leadership style, we also got to see Van Alden's strange little world begin to implode. His intense guilt over Agent Clarkson's condition made me think we would see a return of Van Alden's religious zealotry. When Van Alden made that phone call to his wife, he seemed ready to confess his sins to her and his boss.

However, once he realized that Clarkson's accusatory words were just the result of the poor man's delirium, Van Alden shied away from his impulse to come clean.

But his relationship with Lucy was still exposed when his wife came to check up on him. I was really impressed with her anger because Rose has always seemed like a very passive woman. It was satisfying to see her finally stand up for herself, smacking and biting the man who caused her so much pain. Van Alden has made some poor choices, like most of the characters, but his high moral standards seem to be setting him up for disaster, especially when it comes to Rose.

And, I can't wait to see how the whole Margaret-Owen relationship develops. She's been so irritated by his flirtatious and "cheeky" manner, even confronting Katie about her inappropriate behavior, that it really felt like she was just angered by her own attraction to Owen. Finally, she admits to not only herself but also a priest that she feels drawn to him. Margaret has never been an "innocent" character, although she can play the part really well. I wonder how far this attraction will go.

Mostly I'm curious about Nucky and Jimmy's future. Who's going to come out on top?

eddie murphy writing alien comedy 70838 470 75 Eddie Murphy writing alien comedy

Having recently announced an intention to turn his back upon family comedies, Eddie Murphy has revealed he’s currently working on writing his next starring vehicle himself. And apparently, it’s a comedy involving aliens.

Yes, Pluto Nash fans, your ship has finally come in, as Murphy seems determined to to take another run at creating an extra-terrestrial gag-fest. Only this time, he’ll be writing it as more of an ensemble piece.

“I still want to do something like that,” Murphy told Rolling Stone. “I have this idea called Jamal and Tyrell and Omar and Brick and Michael’s Wack-Ass Weekend about this group of guys who get abducted by aliens on the way to the fights. I’m writing that now.”

To be honest, the title alone has us quaking in our boots, but it sounds as though Murphy has at least got some A-list names in mind for his cast. His current film Tower Heist was originally planned as a joint venture between Murphy, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracey Morgan. With five names lined up for the aforementioned Wack-Ass Weekend, could these be the five gents we see occupying the starring roles?

Perhaps we’ll learn more during the run-up to the Oscars, which Murphy will of course be hosting. In the meantime, you’ll just have to dust off that Alien Autopsy DVD and hope for the best…
