The King’s Speech reigns at the Oscars

The King’s Speech came out on top at yesterday’s 83rd Academy Awards - but only just, earning itself four of the golden baldies, including the coveted Best Picture gong.

In a disappointingly conservative ceremony, the biggest surprise turned out to be that The King’s Speech only took home four awards despite being nominated for 12.

But it grabbed the ones that counted, mostly, with Colin Firth finally earning the Best Actor gong that was snaffled from him last year (by Jeff Bridges). Tom Hooper snatched the Best Director award, while his film also earned the Best Original Screenplay trophy.

Elsewhere, Natalie Portman bagged Best Actress for her virtuoso turn in Black Swan, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo’s performances in The Fighter earned them both Best Supporting statuettes, and Toy Story 3 won Best Animated Feature.

Happily, Inception wasn’t overlooked (despite that controversial Best Director nom snub for Chris Nolan), earning a clutch of technical prizes – four in total.

Meanwhile, The Social Network scooped three awards including Best Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay (for Aaron Sorkin) and Best Score - for Trent Reznor’s innovative, atmospheric and much-deserving soundtrack.

For the full list of winners, see below…

UFC 127 Musings

Posted by Monkey 1 in: All News

SHOULD THE DRAW INSPIRE OR DISCOURAGE PENN AT WELTERWEIGHT?

08 UFC127 UFC 127 MusingsOn Saturday night, BJ Penn did something that no other UFC fighter, other than Georges St-Pierre, has been able to do. He entered the cage with Jon Fitch and walked away without suffering a loss. That is a major accomplishment for the former champion, in and of itself.

Say what you will about Fitch’s style, his all-business demeanor or his inability to finish opponents. Those are only relevant to the marketing side of the business. All that matters from a competitive standpoint is winning. And this guy is one of the very best winners that we have in the UFC, period. It took the round of Fitch’s life, one where he landed more than 100 ground strikes without taking a single one in return, in order to squeak out a majority draw against Penn.

Still, the fact remains that the former champion is now 2-3-1 in six UFC welterweight bouts, having defeated no man other than Matt Hughes. There is no doubt that Penn is keenly aware of his struggles at 170 pounds. The question is whether the draw with Fitch should encourage Penn to make welterweight his home or serve as a clear sign that it is time to return to lightweight?

I’ve got to admit that I’m torn on that one.

Penn looked tremendous in the first two rounds. He shocked everyone, Fitch and his corner included, with his ability to take down the perennial contender. I’m not putting any stock into Fitch not training his counter wrestling during camp. That had nothing to do with it. Penn is one of the best fighters to ever enter the sport. That is why he took down Fitch.

The problem, however, is that the takedown attempts, both successful and unsuccessful, and time spent defending takedowns, completely depleted his gas tank over the course of two rounds. Penn was in great shape. But pushing and pulling against a guy who is almost 20 percent heavier takes its toll.

The first two rounds of the fight told me two things. First, Penn can compete with anyone at welterweight for the first two rounds. Second, Penn had better end the fight during those two rounds, if he is fighting a big welter with a great wrestling base, such as Fitch, Georges St-Pierre, Jake Shields or even Hughes. Otherwise, he is in major trouble.

One could argue that Penn should merely dominate the first two rounds, like he did against Fitch, and then get on his bicycle and stay away during the third round. Forget, for a moment, about the ire that such a game plan would draw from the fans. It is only an effective strategy for non-title affairs. It doesn’t work at all in a five round title fight.

So, what does that mean for Penn, a guy who is in the sport to continue achieving greatness, rather than a guy who fights for a paycheck? It probably means that life as a welterweight is a tough road to hoe. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it is a much tougher prospect than returning to lightweight and taking on Gray Maynard for the title, if he is able to defeat Frankie Edgar in their upcoming scrap.

Then again, if anyone would have told me that Penn would take down Fitch in each of the first two rounds, I would have asked them if they were recently released from the crazy ward. And it would have taken me at least 10 minutes to get that answer out because I would have been laughing so hard at such a silly comment. Penn is in the sport to prove that his doubters are idiots. That is why I am convinced that his next fight will be a rematch with Fitch, and he will remain focused on competing against bigger, stronger guys, rather than returning to a world that he knows he can dominate.

FITCH SHOWS CHAMPIONSHIP METTLE, DESPITE THE OUTCOME

02 UFC127 UFC 127 MusingsMany Fitch fans are probably pretty disappointed in their guy right about now. He was so dominant in the final round that it is tough to understand why he didn’t get even more aggressive in search of a stoppage. He needed to posture up and throw meaningful punches, not slapping arm punches that annoyed Penn more than hurt him.

I’m not among those. I think Fitch’s performance in the final round represents a turning point in his career. I know he didn’t score a stoppage, which runs his dubious streak of fighting to the final bell to an almost unheard of nine fights. What it did, though, is prove that he has the DNA to be great. He has the sort of competitive fire that you can’t teach. And he knows how to perform when everything is on the line.

“Crazy Bob” Cook knew his fighter was down on the cards as his fighter searched for answers before the start of the third round. Cook knew that Fitch needed to dominate the final round if he had any chance of escaping a devastating loss, one that would surely derail Fitch’s championship hopes for the near term. The affable trainer didn’t pull any punches when he delivered the message. If Fitch had any delusions in his mind that he was winning, or possibly even tied, on the judges’ cards after two rounds, Cook erased those thoughts with some well-timed honesty.

Lots of fighters receive that same clear direction heading into the final round of a fight. Few take it to heart. And those who do typically can’t find a way to right the ship. Fitch isn’t just another fighter. He is a championship-level fighter, one who probably would have won and successfully defended the title by now had GSP opted to go into hockey, rather than MMA.

Fitch’s ability to accept reality, listen to his corner and act upon those words is something that will serve him well the next time he fights for a title—and believe me, there will be a next time.

BISPING GIVES RIVERA A TASTE OF HIS OWN MEDICINE

03 UFC127 UFC 127 MusingsTrash talking 101: Never open your mouth, unless you are willing to accept the consequences of your words. Jorge Rivera needs to accept that reality of the game.

I don’t know why anyone was surprised when Bisping got in his face at the end of the first round and asked him how he liked the beating that was underway. Similarly, I don’t know why anyone expected “The Count” to do anything other than demand an apology after stopping him with strikes, a fitting end to a fight with such pre-bout vitriol.

Bisping is one of the more emotional fighters in the UFC. Everybody knows that. Rivera knew that his aggressive videos and venom-laden banter would strike a deep chord inside “The Count.” That is why he did it. He wanted Bisping to fight recklessly due to emotion, rather than with controlled, focused aggression and anger. Things didn’t quite unfold like Rivera hoped. The loss is what it is—and for the record, I do not believe that the illegal knee was thrown with malice aforethought. That was probably a moment where Bisping’s emotions got the best of him, mixed with just a simple mistake.

Now, I don’t condone Bisping’s actions directed at Rivera’s corner. There is a line that needs to be drawn no matter how crazy the pre-fight trash talk gets. Brock Lesnar walked right up to that line when he bludgeoned Frank Mir in their rematch after listening to similar barbs in the weeks leading up to the fight. Bisping crossed it when he spit into the air, but all of his other actions, in my opinion, were within the realm of reasonable. And they were pretty much exactly what I expected based on the way Bisping has historically responded to trash talking.

Fighters must win and lose with class, but the definition of class also depends on the situation. These guys are human, and humans act out of emotion. When a guy chooses to take a non-emotional situation and turn it into a schoolyard battle of words, he needs to expect his opponent to react harshly, even after the fight.

I don’t think these two will be exchanging Christmas cards any time soon, and you know what, that is OK. I enjoyed the fight. I’m sure everyone else outside of Team Rivera did, too.

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, EBERSOLE?

01 UFC127 UFC 127 MusingsA manscaped arrow? Seriously?

I know eliminating body hair is the rage these days. Finely trimmed goatees. Hairless torsos. Shaved forearms. I get it. But an arrow in the middle of your chest?

Brian Ebersole, my man, that is just plain weird.

In fact, the arrow caused me to make a snap judgment on the UFC debutant. I instantly discarded his chances against a talented, grizzled veteran like Lytle. When Ebersole opened up with a cartwheel kick, a strike that has absolutely no chance of scoring against someone of Lytle’s skill level, I began to laugh about what I assumed would be a one-sided thumping.

Of course, I was wrong.

By the time the fight was over, I started to understand that there is a method to Ebersole’s insanity. He isn’t just an eccentric guy. He is a very smart, effective mixed martial artist. His herky-jerky movements, unorthodox strikes and seemingly pointless feints were all designed to frustrate and possibly even annoy his opponent. It worked. Lytle seemed less comfortable in that fight than any previous ones that come to mind. He unnecessarily loaded up on his punches, winding up from Indianapolis before letting them fly in the Land Down Under. Ebersole saw most of them coming from a mile away and moved to a safe distance, and over the course of a couple of rounds, Lytle had worn himself out, both mentally and physically, from his lack of success.

It was a brilliant strategy. Well done, Mr. Arrow.

HUNT BRINGS CAREER BACK FROM THE DEAD

107562038RP012 UFC 127 Hunt1 UFC 127 MusingsThe last time Mark Hunt experienced getting his hand raised in a mixed martial arts bout was May 5, 2006. Six consecutive losses later, Hunt, who once defeated Mirko Cro Cop and Wanderlei Silva in back-to-back bouts when the two were at the peak of their greatness, found himself fighting a fellow artificial blond in a fight to save his career.

Mission accomplished.

Hunt’s second round knockout of Chris Tuchscherer was, for my money, at least, the most entertaining bout of the night. Tuchscherer showed amazing heart when he refused to take the easy way out after suffering one of the worst cuts in recent memory above his left eye. The cut absolutely affected his vision. He didn’t care, opting to fight on anyway.

The bout’s ending reminded everyone why Hunt is a legitimate fan favorite. After missing with a left hook fired with seriously bad intentions, the former world champion kickboxer followed with a short right hand seemingly thrown with nothing but his arm.

Bingo!

The punch landed squarely, instantly short-circuiting Tuchscherer and bringing the fight to a close. Hunt reacted to the shot by walking away with his hand raised a full second or two before the referee actually stopped the fight. It was reminiscent of an Alex Rodriguez home run, when the Yankee superstar and future Hall of Famer calmly tosses the bat aside and begins his celebration trot long before the ball leaves the yard. True home run hitters, like Rodriguez and Hunt, know when they have delivered the coup de grace. There is no need for someone else to actually acknowledge it.

If Hunt is paired correctly, he certainly has several more interesting fights left in him. I’d love to see him against Cro Cop in a rematch of their entertaining 2005 PRIDE bout, or against Brendan Schaub, Junior dos Santos, or any other heavyweight slugger who dares stand and trade with him. Any time that happens, a Fight of the Night or Knockout of the Night bonus is likely to follow, just like the one that put some extra cash in Hunt’s pocket on Saturday night.

mark ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has revealed that the motion capture work he’s doing for The Avengers has resulted in a beefy green Hulk that looks just like him.

The actor, who took on the role when previous Hulk Ed Norton stepped away from it, will use motion capture to play Hulk when he’s really angry.

“[It looks] just like me,” he says. “We’re going out of our way. First of all, I’ll be playing it.

“I’ll be the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk.  And so all the features are mine - they’re just really big.”

Which sounds odd, but awesome. Ruffalo also commends Joss Whedon’s script for the film, which combines comedy with drama, and seems amped to be a part of the project.

Ruffalo lost out at last night’s Oscars, despite being nominated for his performance in The Kid’s Are All Right. The Best Supporting Actor gong went to Christian Bale for The Fighter instead.

star wars clone wars chewie WIDE STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS – Chewie Crash Lands On the One Hour Season Finale

Orrrrruuuhhhhhh! Ok, the Wookiee language is hard to sound out phonetically, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ one-hour season finale will feature everyone’s fave Wookie, Chewbacca. We’ve got a sneak peek of this episode for you and an inside look at how Peter Mayhew, the 7’-3” actor who played Chewie in the live-action Star Wars films, had to be involved in Chewbacca’s induction into Clone Wars.

The Return of the Wookiee: Chewie’s Back for the Season Finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

An immense, fur-covered warrior whose tremendous strength and ferocity are matched only by his loyalty and compassion, Chewbacca the Wookiee is one of the most universally beloved characters from the entire Star Wars Saga.

Recognized by fans around the world as the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, Chewbacca was an instrumental player in the original Star Wars trilogy – and he will return to a galaxy far, far away in the thrilling, one-hour season finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Friday, April 1st at 8pm e/p on Cartoon Network.

It was actor Peter Mayhew who defined the character with his iconic performance in the live-action Star Wars films, and the Clone Wars crew felt his involvement in the series was integral in capturing Chewie’s spirit. The 7’3” actor was brought to Skywalker Ranch to advise the team tasked with bringing the legendary character into the animated galaxy of The Clone Wars.

“[Supervising Director] Dave Filoni said my participation in creating Chewie for the series was essential,” says Mayhew. “He told his artists to study the way I walk, my mannerisms and demeanor. He said, ‘To understand Chewie, you need to understand Peter.’ We also went into the Lucasfilm archives and studied some of the original Chewie costumes to make sure the details were carried over into the animation.”

“Bringing Chewie to The Clone Wars is very special for us, and it wouldn’t be right without Peter’s involvement and blessing,” says Filoni. “Peter and Chewie are one and the same; he brings so much of himself to the character and it was important for us to capture that. Otherwise, it just wouldn’t feel right. Having his input was great; he was able to add all the little mannerisms and details that he knew from living with Chewie for more than three decades.”

In addition to advising the team on Chewie’s look and feel, Mayhew was also asked to contribute to the character in a whole new way: recreating his iconic growl.

“The Chewbacca sounds were sourced from the same bank as the original films, but Dave Filoni and Matt Wood thought it would be nice to get a small sample of my voice mixed in,” says Mayhew. “This goes back to everyone at Lucasfilm feeling that they needed me to portray the character in every way possible. After so many years of being asked to do the growl for fans, I’ve found that I’m actually quite good at it. I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the series. The animation is amazing, and they really captured the essence of Chewie. As soon as I saw it I said ‘that’s it. He’s there. That’s Chewbacca.’”

alg thurgood fishbourne 300x223 Review HBOs ThurgoodWhen I was a child, my father used to call me Thurgood.

Don't ask me why. I was a scrawny little white boy who more closely resembled Yoda than any Supreme Court justice. But for some reason, whenever he saw me, my father would happily crow that I was "Thurgood Marshall, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court!" Despite the fact that Marshall was actually an associate justice, I grew up with sort of a passive interest in Marshall. Whenever I heard his name mentioned, I felt like I was entitled to be more interested in him than others. That he mattered more to me than he did to anyone else. So, naturally, when I found out that HBO was going to be airing a recording of the play Thurgood, I was naturally excited.

I didn't know much about Marshall going into Thurgood, though I did know what he looked like, that he was the first black justice on the court, and that he'd had an integral role as an attorney in Brown v. Board of Education, the famous case that overturned segregation. I'd always felt like I should know more about the man, but never did. Thankfully, Thurgood was a good place to start.

First of all, I have to say that Lawrence Fishburne owns this part. Sure, he's got the voice that you can distinguish as his no matter who he's portraying, but the slight accent he colors it with serves to distinguish himself from the character just enough. As Marshall, Fishburne is often side-splittingly funny. In one part of the play (which was filmed live in Washington), he berates latecomers in the audience, though good-naturedly. At the end of the play, he gives a short hypothetical story about a black man and a white woman on a train ride which has a ending that almost has to make you grin. But between that, Fishburne delivers a speedy first-person narrative of Marshall's life, from before he was born until his retirement from the Supreme Court in 1991, two years before his death.

Of course, it's really impossible to know how similar Fishburne's Marshall is to the real Thurgood, but after watching this play, I feel like I knew the guy, personally. There's a real intimacy in the play that's only disrupted by sound effects and a changing background (used sparingly but still my only qualms about the production). I felt like I was sitting in a room, talking one-on-one with him. That's how absolutely riveted I was.

In retrospect, Thurgood is similar to the last HBO film, The Sunset Limited, in that there isn't a change of scene. Thurgood is much different, though: it's both bigger and smaller. It's bigger because the story told takes place over the span of a lifetime (not counting the anecdote about his enslaved ancestor). It's smaller because instead of two characters it only has one man delivering an incredibly long monologue. By the way, Fishburne's brilliance in the role is underscored by the fact that he had to memorize two hours' worth of talking. That's quite a long time, and the fact that he didn't even stumble lends only to the greatness of both the actor and the play.

I could address how bluntly the play addresses race, and perhaps I should. I'm sure that's what other reviewers have done. But I think it would cheapen the play to say that it tears down boundaries for television. I'll only say that it's the story of a man so influential that a white man in Alabama gave his child that man's name as a nickname. And I'll also say that it's a story well told. A

justin bieber director jon chu will direct g i joe 2 49350 00 470 75 Justin Bieber director Jon Chu will direct G.I. Joe 2

Jon Chu, director of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, has been chosen by Paramount to direct G.I. Joe 2.

Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) won't be returning to direct the sequel, but desperate fans can breath a sigh of relief now the follow-up has a director.

Chu is best known for directing Justin Bieber's recent documentary, and he previously helmed the two most recent installments of the Step Up franchise, giving him a tenuous link to Joe star Channing Tatum (who cameoed in Step Up 2).

While Chu's name doesn't exactly fill us with confidence that the action sequel will be much of an improvement on the weak first installment, it is worth remembering that Chu does have a knack for choreography, which he might be able to transfer to action sequences.

He also has a script by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, which can't be a bad thing.

Speaking to Slashfilm, Chu said: "The one thing I felt was missing from the last Joe movie was the power of the punch. You want Joe to be tough. They are fun, but they are tough. I feel that you don’t want to make Joe too kids."

"Joe has history... For me, it is about the fun stuff like Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, and all the gadgets. All of that stuff. But it has heart."

Now they have their director, Paramount are moving ahead with trying get the original cast members back.

SYDNEY, February 27 - UFC 127 kicked off in style at Acer Arena with fantastic fights and spectacular wins by local favorites Mark Hunt and Anthony Perosh, with Ross Pearson, Curt Warburton, Tiequan Zhang and Nick Ring also getting the nod in their respective fights.

PEARSON VS. FISHER

pearson win pic 127 UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinTUF 9 winner Ross Pearson and longtime contender Spencer Fisher fought three exciting rounds before the Brit won a unanimous decision via 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 scores. See post-fight interview

The first round was mainly contested on the feet, with crisp punches and kicks from both fighters. Fisher did get a takedown into the closed guard but Pearson attempted an armbar from the bottom which Fisher pulled out of.

In the second frame, both fighters kept scoring on their feet, Fisher with counter rights and lefts and a low-high combination, Pearson with single shots that found their mark.

Pearson found his grappling timing in the third round, getting two takedowns, including one right before the end of the fight. Fisher had good success striking, changing levels a lot and at one point hitting Pearson with a left that snapped his head back on impact, but it was not enough to pull off the victory.

Pearson improves to 14-4 with the win, while Fisher drops to 25-7.

GUSTAFSSON VS. TE HUNA

gustafsson pic winner 127 UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinSwedish fighter Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson put an end to Australia's hopes of a clean sweep at UFC 127 as he submitted local hero James Te Huna with a rear-naked choke in the first round. See post-fight interview

The fight was all action from the get-go as the Aussie got a body lock takedown and landed in side control quickly. He scored with punches and elbows to the head before Gustafsson managed to bring the action back to their feet. The Swede scored with an impressive slam of his own and tried to follow up with a kimura but Te Huna used it to get back to his feet. A further takedown attempt by the Australian got him into trouble as he gave up his back, was flattened out and put in a rear-naked choke. While Te Huna managed to roll out of it the first time, Gustafsson ended up in full mount, did some more damage from the top, got another back mount and choked out Te Huna with the rear naked choke at the 4:27 mark.

With the win, Gustafsson improves to 11-1 while Te Huna drops to 14-5.

RING VS. FUKUDA

ring win pic 127 UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinFormer Ultimate Fighter contestant Nick Ring won an unpopular three round unanimous decision over Japanese fighter Riki Fukuda, winning 29-28 on all three scorecards. See post-fight interview

The fighters traded leg kicks at the beginning of round one. Fukuda kept going for takedowns, but even on the two instances he got them, he couldn't do anything on the ground, with Ring attempting a triangle choke. Back on their feet, Ring kept landing leg kicks before Fukuda took him back down with ten seconds remaining.

The second frame saw Ring (11-1) landing his leg kicks even more regularly. In response, Fukuda (17-5) tagged Ring with a left hook, attempted a takedown which got stuffed, and was hit with a few shots on the exit. The Japanese veteran did manage to get a second takedown later in the round, however it didn't lead to anything. Ring got back up, yet found himself in the plum clinch, getting hit with knees, and Fukuda ended the round counterpunching and landing combinations.

In the final frame, Fukuda kept scoring at close range and took Ring down repeatedly. On the final takedown, Ring worked for a kimura, but time expired.

PEROSH VS. BLACKLEDGE

perosh tn 127 win UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinAnthony Perosh kept the good news coming for the Aussies when he submitted English prospect Tom Blackledge with a rear-naked choke in light heavyweight action. See post-fight interview

Perosh tried a takedown right at the start which Blackledge had no trouble sprawling out of. A short time later, Perosh got a takedown against the cage and he tried to ground-and-pound his way to victory but got caught in an armbar from the bottom briefly. Perosh slipped out, got full mount and when Blackledge gave up his back, he got flattened out and was submitted by
a rear naked choke at the 2:45 minute mark of round one.

The win brings Perosh's record up to 11-6, while Blackledge falls to 10-7.

Reinhardt went after Zhang right away, attacking with punches but getting tagged himself. Shortly after the first exchange, Reinhardt ducked down and Zhang exploited this opportunity by grabbing Reinhardt's neck in a guillotine choke, leaving the American with no other choice but to tap.

With the win, Zhang's record increases to 18-1 while Reinhardt's falls to 20-2.

HUNT VS TUCHSCHERER

107562038RP012 UFC 127 Hunt UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinIn a battle of true heavyweights, hometown hero Mark Hunt finally won his first fight in the Octagon by knocking out Chris Tuchscherer. See post-fight interview

The former K-1 kickboxer lit up Tuchscherer in the first round, managing to prevent several takedown attempts by the wrestler. Hunt cut Tuchscherer with his shots, but the ringside physician decided to let the fight go on. Tuchscherer eventually scored a takedown, yet unsuccessfully worked for a kimura on Hunt's left arm until the end of the round.

The second round began with two thwarted takedown attempts and ended at the 1:41 mark with a right uppercut by Hunt that knocked Tuchscherer out.

With the win, Hunt improves his MMA record to 6-7 while Tuchscherer's drops to 18-4 with one no contest.

JEWTUSZKO VS. WARBURTON

107562038RP001 UFC 127 Warb UFC 127 Prelims: Pearson Outlasts Fisher; Hunt, Perosh WinIn lightweight action, England's own Curt Warburton bested Poland's Maciej Jewtuszko by unanimous decision, with all three judges giving the Brit the nod, 29-28. See post-fight interview

After a tactical start to the first round, Jewtuszko slipped, and Warburton used the opportunity to take his opponent down and land in his guard. While Jewtuszko maintained good hand control for the most part, Warburton hit him with a lot of elbows from the guard and even managed to move to side control and challenge with an arm triangle.

In the second frame, Warburton challenged Jewtuszko standing before clinching against the Octagon and taking down his opponent with a leg trip into half guard. Jewtuszko managed to get a leg lock from underneath, but Warburton managed to roll out of it. After a further takedown into half guard, Warburton scores with elbows from the guard position. Jewtuszko retained good hand control and even landed an elbow from underneath.

The final round went just as the second one after a brief flurry on the contestants' feet. Warburton managed to get the fight back down to the ground and landed in side control. Jewtuszko gave up his back before rolling back into full guard, where he stayed until the end of the fight.

Warburton's record moves to 7-2, while Jewtuszko's record drops to 8-1.

Idris Elba, Kate Dickie and Sean Harris have joined the cast of Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the sorta-prequel to Alien.

The movie is shrouded in immense secrecy, but it's fast creeping its way to the top of our 'Most Anticipated List'.

Elba is still probably best known for his portrayal of Stringer Bell in The Wire, pulling off an astonishing blend of charm and menace.

He also earned good notices for Luther (on the telly), and he has provided solid support in The Losers, RocknRolla and 28 Days Later, and he'll be seen in Thor this summer.

You may recognise Kate Dickie from her performance in Andrea Arnold's Red Road, where she was compelling as the CCTV operator with a secret past, and Sean Harris has recently been seen in Brighton Rock, Harry Brown and Red Riding.

These new recruits are joining the already-cast Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron.

It's extremely reassuring and exciting to see Scott filling out his cast with genuine acting talent over big-name recognition, as he returns to the territority of one of his greatest movies.

And this is one movie that we're properly excited to see in 3D...
