It's a bit too early to predict who will be crowned the next American Idol champion. It might help to have a few names of the finalists and all.

But the new (and improved?) team is featured in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and the panelists take a few broad guesses about who might end up on the finale stage in May:

Ryan Seacrest: I think you’ll see some of the youngest talent we’ve ever had compete with some of the oldest talent we’ve ever had.
Jennifer Lopez: You may have the youngest winner ever.
Randy Jackson: I’m going to go out on a limb. I think a girl’s going to win the show.

What about Simon Cowell departing the competition?

Says Randy:

"It’s definitely been interesting. He’s our friend for life. I don’t know if Steven knows him much, but Jennifer definitely knows him. We’ve all hung out together. So, listen, we definitely miss him, but it’s a different kind of vibe. It’s a different kind of energy now. And I think in season 10 the show actually really needed it."

Are you looking forward to season 10? It kicks off on January 19.

jesse eisenberg

Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend – and headed up a skit in which he meets the real Mark Zuckerberg.

Having played Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s Oscar-nominated film without ever meeting the man himself, the sketch plays up the awkward factor.

And Zuckerberg does look genuinely uncomfortable – is it because he’s not a fan of being on camera? Or is he resisting smacking Eisenberg in the chin?

The whole scene is pretty painful from the outset, as Eisenberg plays up his unconfident screen persona to the audience, before Andy Samberg hits the stage in his best Zuckerberg outfit (namely, a hoodie).

"Misrepresenting people is something you have a lot of practice with!" yells Samberg. "You got nominated for an Academy Award for playing me. What do I have to feel good about?"

Eisenberg gets in a swift retort of "Wasn't Facebook just valued at like, 50 billion dollars?" to appease Zucker-Samberg, before a cut to reveal the real Zuckerberg is watching the action backstage.

'The Zuck' gets faux-annoyed with the "nerds", dubbing Eisenberg "my evil twin": "Those guys are such nerds. I mean, c'mon, I invented poking!"

Despite Eisenberg's onstage claim that he was playing a fictional character from a movie script, it's extremely tense when Zuckerberg enters the stage to meet the actor for the first time.

"Yeah, I did [see The Social Network],” says the Facebook founder. “It was interesting.” We think our brains just exploded.

Though we're pretty grateful that David Fincher cast proper actors in his movie, as Zuckerberg's leaden delivery leaves a lot to be desired...

Check out the clip below…

Managing the career of a burgeoning mixed martial artist is tough. Molding a future champion is even tougher.

It is imperative to bring the athlete along at the proper pace. Matchmaking is critically important. Young fighters must be continually challenged without getting them in over their head, so they can learn the necessary lessons and continue up the developmental curve.

He must learn the fundamentals of the sport, and how to seamlessly transition among the various disciplines during the ever-changing circumstances of an actual MMA contest. He must learn how to keep his emotions under control to avoid unnecessary adrenaline dumps, which crush even the best-conditioned athlete’s cardio. He must learn how to deal with adversity—what happens if he gets cut; what if he is behind on the cards with a round to go; etc. And, most importantly, he must develop unshakable belief (not merely outward hubris) in himself, believing to the depths of his soul that he is the best fighter in the world.

Match a young fighter against an experienced and talented veteran too soon and the resulting beating can crush his psyche, stripping away his sense of invulnerability. A fighter devoid of a strong mind may fight great from time to time, but he will never be a great fighter.

There comes a time, though, when the kid gloves must come off. Jon Jones and Ryan Bader, the two brightest young contenders in the light heavyweight division, reached that point in their respective careers in 2010. It happened for Jones when he faced Brandon Vera on March 21. Bader jumped into the deep end against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira on September 25. Both passed their respective tests with flying colors, transitioning from prospects to legitimate top 10 contenders.

On Saturday night, the pair will take their careers to the next level by facing each other. The winner will take another giant step toward title contention. The other man will face the first true setback of his fighting career.

The two fighters are very similar in terms of skills and style. Both are extremely strong wrestlers who will use those skills if the situation calls for it, although they prefer to stand and strike. Jones and Bader have worked hard on their respective standup games, and love to thrill the crowd with an all-action effort. I expect them to stand and bang it out early, with the man coming up on the short end of the stick looking for the takedown.

Jones will enjoy height and reach advantages when he steps into the Octagon with Bader, to the tune of a couple of inches in height and an absurd 10.5 inches in reach.  He is also the more fluid of the two, in terms of striking while using lateral movement, and has a deep arsenal of unorthodox strikes long distance that are very difficult to prepare for because it is nearly impossible to replicate them in the training gym.

Bader, by contrast, is very good at very basic boxing moves.  He needs to come forward to be effective.  His lateral movement and ability to slip punches by moving like a pendulum are average.  And, of course, his fistic arsenal remains very rudimentary and predictable: range-finding jabs, one-twos, lead right hands followed by left hooks, but very few clean up left hooks, lead uppercuts or a really focused, snapping jab.

What does that tell us? Jones will be well served to leverage those advantages by fighting behind an active jab and maintaining enough distance to where he can land good shots but Bader has to lunge to land something of consequence.  If he does that, his length and fluidity advantages should allow him to pepper his foe from a distance, landing almost at will on his shorter, stockier foe and forcing Bader into desperation shots from far too far away.

I like Jones to win a straight kickboxing contest, assuming he remains committed to keeping the fight on the outside. Of course, that is easier said than done against an athlete like Bader.

If Bader is able to get past Jones’ jab or the New Yorker becomes overly aggressive with power shots and lets his opponent on the inside, the advantage on the feet shifts dramatically.  Bader is the more explosive of the two, in terms of raw horsepower on his punches, and he fires with at least as much speed, though he tends to wind up a bit.

Fighting in a phone booth forces Bader to throw short, compact shots, which is when he will actually generate the most power. Jones’ length, by contrast, will work against him in that scenario because his punches will be smothered. He will fire crazy elbows that can quickly end the fight. Jones should also be the more effective of the two fighting from the Thai plumb. Nonetheless, I like Bader’s chances if the action devolves into an ugly inside slugfest.

The reality, though, is that the fight won’t likely unfold exclusively in either of those areas. Each man will have his chances where he has the advantage.

All that is great. If I’m coaching either fighter, I would be more concerned with my man using his striking in order to take the fight where I believe it will ultimately be decided—on the ground.

Jones and Bader are both well rounded fighters. Yet, both would readily admit that their offensive guard is the weakest part of their game. I don’t think either man has the skills to submit the other from his back, which means the safest route to victory is to take the fight to the ground.

Bader is the more accomplished wrestler of the two on paper, winning division championships and racking up more than 100 career wins at Arizona State. Jones won a national championship at the JUCO level. Ask former heavyweight kingpin Brock Lesnar about the difference.

Still, Jones hasn’t taken a backseat to anyone in the wrestling department in his MMA career. Maybe he would fall prey to Bader on the wrestling mat, but his functional MMA takedowns are probably at least as good because of his ability to mix judo throws with traditional takedowns.

Bader’s key to getting the fight to the ground is to force Jones’ hands up to defend strikes and then shoot for a double leg underneath his guard. The other option is to slip and strike his way onto the inside and force the action to the cage en route to a high crotch, trip or just pulling him down. He must be careful to avoid a clinch, or if a clinch materializes to quickly force Jones’ back to the fence, otherwise he might go for a ride himself.

Either way, I think Bader greatly increases his odds of winning by taking the fight to the ground because he will be able to use his excellent hips, balance and wrestling base to keep Jones down where he can score points for control while he grinds away with ground and pound strikes. He certainly has the power to knock out Jones or any other light heavyweight with a couple of clean punches, but he risks suffering the same fate if he opts to challenge Jones on the feet for very long. He would be better served looking for the knockout on the ground.

I don’t see Jones having as much success shooting for takedowns from the outside. His height works against him in that scenario. Bader should be able to see double-leg attempts coming and successfully sprawl, assuming he is not covering up from punches. Jones would be better off striking until Bader takes a risk to move to the inside, and at that point, he should also come forward, quickly secure the clinch and take Bader for a ride with a judo throw.

Bader is a great freestyle wrestler, not a great Greco guy. Jones is able throw even high level Greco guys, so he should be just fine in the clinch against Bader.

On the ground, Jones should not follow as conservative of a game plan as his foe. Grinding it out on the ground isn’t something that he likes to do, as evidenced by only allowing two of 12 opponents to last the distance. He instead likes to use his length to his advantage. Those long arms enable him to fire very hard elbows, even when his hips are controlled from the guard. Mixing those with punches should allow him to pass Bader’s guard. If this guy gets to the mount, it’s good night in a matter of moments.

Just like with Bader, Jones can knock out just about anyone on the feet from an unseen strike or an accumulation of shots. I also think he is the more likely man to score a judges’ decision if the action unfolds exclusively on the feet and lasts the full 15 minutes.

Yet, he is more adept at ending the action from savage ground and pound. At the end of the day, that is the smarter, safer route to victory against an explosive athlete like Bader.

Henry Cavill cast as Superman

British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Superman in Zack Snyder's Superman: Man Of Steel.

The actor, currently known for starring as Charles Brandon in TV series The Tudors, was very close to winning the part of Batman for 2005's Batman Begins, but director Christopher Nolan felt he was too young.

Well now Cavill has come of age, and how.

Christopher Nolan - now 'Creative Godfather' for the Superman reboot - and director Zack Snyder, have given the 27 year-old one of the biggest roles in cinema.

Synder said; "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen.

"I also join Warner Bros., Legendary (pictures) and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry.

"He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."

Though hardly an unknown akin to predecessor Brandon Routh, Cavill has yet to prove himself in a big-screen leading role.

And despite the obvious pressure of the job, his biggest test might be getting US audiences to buy a Brit as the most American of superheroes.

Cavill will next be seen in the upcoming Immortals alongside Mickey Rourke (pictured above).

Superman: Man Of Steel is due in cinemas December, 2013.

According to dictionary.com, the definition of reciprocity is a reciprocal state or relation, a mutual exchange. When you give something to someone, be it tangible or not, they give it back and vice versa.

Fringe 3.11 Reciprocity RecapAs Walter said in last night’s episode of Fringe, every relationship is reciprocal. Between man and woman, man and child, person and pet… Every relationship is about the give and take. In last night’s episode it was about man and Walternet’s machine.

But before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s take it back and recap tonight’s episode from the beginning…

The episode begins as the fringe division crew is on the scene with Nina Sharp at Massive Dynamic’s off site hanger where the doomsday machine is being assembled and tested. Whereas Olivia mentions it’s bigger than she imagined, Peter supposes, “it’s just big enough to destroy a couple of universes.” No one at Massive Dynamic seems to know anything about the workings of the machine but as Peter is in the house, things start happening. Specifically, the electromagnetism in the room spikes, the computers start going crazy and Peter gets a nosebleed.  (Oh hey! Am I watching Lost?!)

It’s also at this scene we learn that the division has cracked the code on Fauxlivia’s computer which while good news isn’t helping the fringe division much. (Editor’s note: As this is what Walter has dubbed her, I’ll start calling her Fauxlivia but I much prefer Bolivia.)

Every observation she made and thought she had is in one big file and it’s hard for them to tell what’s valuable. There’s detailed information about her relationship with Peter and hundreds of names of those she came in contact with but no real order or code to figure out what it all means.

Shortly after the hangar, there is a moment between Peter and Walter in the kitchen of their house. Walter having read “The First People” multiple times to determine what the machine is and it’s connection to Peter, and Peter just coming in the house after a supposed late night walk. Peter is exhausted, anxious and somewhat determined. He needs and wants answers just as much as everyone else does. He tells Walter that he can’t protect him from this, and by the look in Walter’s eyes you can tell this is killing him. (In case you forgot, “The First People” by Seamus Wilis is the book mentioned some episodes back about a civilization before the dinosaurs who made a great technological discovery.)

To no avail, Peter undergoes some medical tests at Massive Dynamic to investigate the connection between him and the machine. Not surprisingly the tests tell us nothing. Terrified, Walter speaks to Nina about his need for the research Billy did when taking out parts of his brain. He feels he isn’t whole and needs to be smarter to help Peter and he breaks my heart.

Meanwhile Broyles puts Astrid on the case to figure out Fauxlivia’s file, and a dead shapeshifter is found at the port authority. As Olivia is super smart, she figures out that this could be the work of Walternet and there is a mole over here.

At first, it appears to be Dr. Falcon, who was just conducting tests on Peter. Yet, moments later we see Dr. Falcon dead on the floor of his living room, leaking mercury from his brain and his data storage unit removed. Finding blood under Dr. Falcon’s nails, they link the murders to Brandon Fayette (Massive Dynamic’s chief scientist) who is later cleared by Billy’s amazing lie detector machine.

elton johns life is getting the movie treatment 470 75 Elton Johns life is getting the movie treatment

Elton John has revealed that a Hollywood biopic of his life is in the works.

The man himself said: "It will be more of a fantasy, Moulin Rouge type of stuff. My life’s been so surreal from buying a football club to God knows what."

Lee Hall, the writer behind Billy Elliot and Steven Spielberg's War Horse, is working on the script. Hall also recently did a top job turning Nigel Slater's biography Toast into a TV movie.

John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, has had quite the life, so it'll be interesting to see what elements make it into the final cut.

The project is in the very early stages at the moment, and it's unclear whether the movie will focus on one period of the singer's life, or flit in and out of different eras, I'm Not There style.

Hall and John have collaborated before, when they provided the lyrics and music respectively for the stage musical adaptation of Billy Elliot.

Takedowns and conditioning. It is no secret that those are the undeniable strengths of welterweight grinder Mike Pierce. Also, it is no secret that Pierce uses these two tools in perfect tandem to break down his opposition in the UFC’s Octagon like it is a wrestling mat in a dusty high school gymnasium. Pierce’s methods are simply tried and true. The question now is, at UFC 126 can newcomer Kenny Robertson do anything to stop them?

“They love giving me rookies,” jokes the 30-year old Pierce, who will be facing his third UFC newcomer in just as many fights. “It makes no difference for me. I get to go out there and fight somebody and make good money and show my skills.” For Pierce, the past two fights have been just that: a showcase for his skills.

The Oregon native’s first foray into rookie stomping was on March 21, 2010 against the oversized and heavy-handed Julio Paulino. “It is the part of the game where you know you have mentally broke somebody down and once you can do that, then everything else follows,” bluntly states Pierce, who easily grounded the “Dominican Demon” for the first 10 minutes, leaving a listless Paulino to walk out to start the third round. “At that point all they have is a puncher's chance or, maybe, if you get sloppy and get caught in a submission. But it definitely does something for your own confidence when you see that defeated look on their face and it is just a matter of five minutes before you get your hand raised.”

About five months later, a nearly identical scenario occurred, with Pierce playing the role of the fresh and ready winner of rounds one and two. Meanwhile, Paulino’s role as the tired and nearly beaten opponent was assumed by the Brazilian Amilcar Alves. “I suspected Amilcar Alves was going to be a tough kid because he had a pretty good record and his only loss was against someone he recently beat,” remembers Pierce about Alves, who trains under UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. “My hope going into that fight was to put on a good fight by winning in dominant fashion and hopefully to finish him in the fight, which I was able to do.”

After two rounds, Pierce was winning by “dominant fashion”. It was all Pierce on the offensive with relentless takedowns and top position control. But something happened in the third round that the UFC faithful had yet to see: Pierce win by submission. “I got really excited during the fight and preoccupied with trying to strike him from the top position that it took me until the third round to mentally calm down.” Pierce explains that he was fixated so much on the ever alluring ground and pound that he was missing opportunities to finish the fight in the first two rounds. “Finally, in that third round I calmed down mentally and focused on the submission attempts and got that straight armbar from half guard.”

It wasn’t “Submission of the Night”, but it was good enough for the victory and helped Pierce to a 3-1 record in the UFC. “In my fights prior to the UFC, I had some good TKOs and a knockout,” Pierce continues about his feelings on getting his first win in the UFC by a stoppage. “It was really nice to be able to display my ability to finish like that on the big show.” Now with four UFC fights under his belt, Pierce feels markedly more comfortable each and every time in the cage to go for those finishes. “It was really fun and I hope to continue to finish fights like that, whether it is a TKO, a knockout or another submission. I think I have gotten into the swing of things to make that happen.”

Whether he continues to win by stoppage or not, Mike Pierce’s unanimous decision wins are never a ho-hum decision. “One thing I love about this sport and that I always loved about wrestling, is the ability to physically and mentally break somebody down,” asserts Pierce, who has the previously stated decision win over Paulino and an equally lopsided decision win over UFC/WEC veteran Brock Larson. “I think there is a certain kind of accomplishment you get when you put someone in a position they don't want to be in and completely dominate somebody for the duration of the fight. I think that is commendable and pretty cool.”

The first part of Pierce’s ability to dominate is his takedowns. “I started wrestling at 12 years old at Peninsula Wrestling Club in North Portland under coach Roy Pittman,” proudly declares Pierce about this prestigious Oregon wrestling club, which has produced talent at both the Olympic and international levels. Pierce shared those same mats with a familiar UFC name, and grew-up learning the art of the takedown alongside UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen. Pierce continues to train with Sonnen to this day at Team Quest. “Everyone was wondering whether or not Chael could take down a guy like Anderson Silva and he showed yes he could. Those guys who are coming out of that club, if there is one thing we know it is how to take people to the ground.”

The second part of Pierce’s ability to dominate is his never-ending gas tank. “My main conditioning coach is Phil Claud,” states Pierce who trains with the renowned former Olympic cyclist coach at the Sports Lab facility in Portland. “He gets me in amazing shape by putting me through hell and torture four days a week.” That gas tank Claud builds for Pierce in those torturous sessions is the key to his never-relenting game. Once the bell rings, Pierce is all work for the entirety of the fight, pushing the action and putting pressure on his opponent. Whether that opponent is a first timer or the #2 ranked welterweight in the world, Jon Fitch, who is Pierce’s only loss in the UFC.

“That conditioning is applicable to everything in MMA. For wrestling, for boxing, for Muay Thai, for Jiu-Jitsu - it is the conditioning of who wants it more that really determines the outcome. I think that is my secret weapon. I am really well skilled in all the disciplines, but when it comes down to it, it matters who wants it more mentally and who has the conditioning to do it. In fights it matters who has the gas tank to push fights and force their will and I have the conditioning program to do that.”

The next man to test Pierce’s will is submission specialist Kenny Robertson. On February 5th in Las Vegas at UFC 126, Robertson better be ready for a rough and ugly start to his UFC career. “If he has watched any video on me then I'm sure he has a little bit of an idea, but once that door closes in the Octagon he will not be ready for what he just got himself into,” remarks Pierce, who notes that he is a lot more than what appears on videotape or even in the “Tale of the Tape”. “I don't think people know how big of a 170 pounder I am. I am stepping into that Octagon most times at 190 pounds. After doing a body fat test not too long ago, I weighed in at 189 pounds and I was only 8.9% body fat, which leaves me at 172ish pounds of lean muscle mass.”

As for Pierce, he is ready for Robertson and all future opponents. “I watch video on these guys, but when it comes down to it, they are fighting me,” affirms Pierce, making it clear that he is walking into the cage to force his will and his gameplan of takedowns and cardio regardless of who stands across from him. “I don't care what previous records or belts they have had or what gym he trains out of or how many knockouts he has, when it comes down to it he is just one man against me. They're going to do what I want them to do; it is either my way or no way. That's how it has to be.”
